Mohsen Zakeri, 1954-2024. A great philologist and a generous colleague, perhaps the first scholar to seriously investigate the premodern Persian-Arabic literary-historical interface in a series of fundamental articles on translation, aphorisms, and history https://t.co/C1nlm7OVwW
"The translation itself was magisterially prepared by Anna Bailey Galietti, translator extraordinaire. Anna was an ideal choice as a formidable Francophile and a fellow scholar of early Islam."

@LoehrNadine @peter_tarras @Stanford@UsaybiaNet The Déroche reference is in the Tehran article.
One could guess that this passage in Ibn Abi Usaybi'a might have been the impetus for the - otherwise idiosyncratic? - choice of thick paper and big thick letters??
Radiocarbon dating confirms fake "Hunayn b. Ishaq" signature at the University of Tehran. So ... not just @Stanford ☺️

@LoehrNadine @peter_tarras @Stanford@UsaybiaNet Thank you @LoehrNadine! The authors of the Tehran study are confident on the radiocarbon dating to 1526-1796 CE, and Déroche agreed with Daneshpazuh and Badawi that this ms looked fake - so presumably the forgers must have been familiar with this passage from Ibn Abi Usaybi'a ?!
@bla222@CellardEleonore @AnnaBigelow786 @Stanford PS: Behnam Sadeghi, whose groundbreaking work on the San'a palimpsest changed the world of Islamic and Quranic studies, never had any illusions about these manuscripts in our collection 👊🏻👊🏻 https://t.co/vzdfUEtr0p and https://t.co/XAfkaFdOvw
@CellardEleonore @OsmanliSeyfo @bla222 We've never had good accession data on these, as @bla222 and I have discussed #California_Mysteries. I'm sure some enterprising forger profited :) *So good* to have expert confirmation of the forgery from @CellardEleonore and thanks to @AnnaBigelow786 for making it happen.
@Elegantprocess8 @SabreenSafiyyah and poems: https://t.co/3KgfOjZfoO. I attempted to stress along the same lines as your tweet that Hallaj didn't call himself a Neoplatonist: https://t.co/atiInFLW3S. Is this all secularization? Hopefully not? Or not in an incompatible way?
@Elegantprocess8 @SabreenSafiyyah It can be quite a useful label - so long as one remembers it is exactly "a very recent Western practice" as you say. There is a great recent collection of articles: https://t.co/tlccndfGcx
