🇳🇱 UPDATE: Malak Mahmoud, the heavily pregnant woman filmed being thrown to the ground and dragged by Dutch police at an asylum seekers’ center in Zeist in May, has filed a criminal complaint against the officers involved, her legal team said.

The complaint alleges attempted grievous bodily harm, assault, and a breach of use-of-force rules, according to the European Legal Support Center, which is backing her case with lawyer Willem Jebbink. It follows a police integrity committee’s finding that the violence had been “necessary,” a conclusion reached by the force investigating itself, the ELSC noted, without publishing the investigation’s contents. Mahmoud, who fled war in Syria and had gone to the Netherlands seeking safety with her husband, a Palestinian from Gaza, went into early labor after the May 19 incident and gave birth days later.

“This fight is about accountability for institutional racism and violence inflicted on asylum seekers in general, and Palestinians in particular,” ELSC said.

I searched a Gaza war crimes archive for my family.

I quickly realized I wasn’t using it the way most people would. I wasn’t browsing it as an activist, researcher or journalist.

I was looking for my family.

My heart sank as I filtered the archive by the dates we lost them and searched for someone I loved.

I found footage I hadn’t seen before of the bombing of the Church of St. Porphyrius, where my cousin Soliman was killed.

I searched for the day my great aunt Elham was murdered, and the day Nahida and Samar Anton were killed by Israeli snipers at the Holy Family Catholic Church.

Eyewitnesses told us Elham was crushed by an Israeli tank. I have graphic photographs of her body that were sent to me by church workers in Gaza, but I found no footage of what happened.

It made me wonder how many people died without leaving behind any visual record.

The realization stayed with me.

Here was a digital graveyard where pieces of my own family history are preserved for journalists, historians, truth seekers and, undoubtedly, those seeking to exploit or consume human suffering.

I know I won’t be the only person to experience this. Other Palestinians searching for loved ones almost certainly will too. But it struck me that this is a form of grief that could scarcely have existed before our time.

It’s a form of grief I never imagined could exist.

The story of the terminally ill Christian monk who gave us the "Children of Gaza" archive.

Months ago we found a Telegram channel with that name, documenting Israel's daily crimes against children. As we always do, we began investigating and downloading a copy — and discovered it was run by a terminally ill monk living in a monastery in Transylvania, in the Carpathian mountains. Yes, Transylvania.

A young woman, Sally, was helping him. Together they documented thousands of atrocities against children and sent them to us. He told us he wanted to spend his final days resisting what he saw as the gravest crimes against children — and that is exactly what he did.

He has now passed from his illness. He never saw his work reach the public, and never knew about our new site or the attention it has drawn. May God bless him and grant him mercy.

Israeli authorities continue to withhold the body of 17-year-old Walid Ahmad from his family, despite the conclusion of the internal judicial investigation into his death.

The high schooler from the West Bank town of Silwad, was arrested in September 2024 for allegedly throwing stones. After six months of detention without a trial date, he collapsed and died in Megiddo Prison in March 2025.

An autopsy revealed extreme weight loss, muscle wasting, and severe malnutrition. An independent doctor observing the procedure stated that starvation was the likely leading cause of death. He also suffered from untreated illnesses like scabies and an intestinal infection.

An Israeli court acknowledged that the teenager was starved in custody, but ruled that a direct, definitive causal link between the starvation and the immediate cause of death could not be legally proven. No indictments were filed and the judge closed the investigation into his death.

💢 Al Jazeera’s Fault Lines spoke with Palestinian American child Mohammed Ibrahim, released from Israeli prison after more than nine months in detention. He described how his friend Walid Ahmad, a 17-year-old, was killed in Israeli custody at Megiddo prison.

Ibrahim said that after an emaciated and wounded Walid lay bleeding after a fall, guards dragged him from the cell by his hair. He was later announced dead.

Think about what it means to order the killing of your own soldiers in order to prevent them from becoming part of a prisoner exchange.

It means that Israeli officials consider it a higher priority to keep detaining Palestinian men, women, and children without charge than to release some in exchange for those soldiers.

That logic is so obviously inhumane that Israel officially ended the Hannibal Directive policy on paper, yet obviously kept it in practice, because we now have many different reports of it being implemented on October 7. And we also know that the bombing campaign was organized through 2023 and 2024 in a way that many Israeli officials understood to be highly likely to kill captives Israelis in Gaza, as +972 has exposed.
