Palestinian Christian | From Gaza with Love | Therapist | Executive Director Elham Fund | When I’m not fighting injustice, I help others fight their demons.
Hi George. I’m a Palestinian Christian from Gaza. The majority of Christians who left did so due to Israel’s illegal blockade. My family’s orchards were bulldozed by the IOF. My grandfather was expelled from Bir Saba’ in 48. My great aunt was sniped by a terrorist soldier in Nov.
Hi Mirna from Portland, like you I’m Christian. Like you I come from a Palestinian family. But if you really cared about the plight of Christians in the Middle East you’d be supporting Israel and condemning Hamas.
In Israel, the Christian population grew from less than 40,000 in 1950 to over 180,000 today – that’s a 450% increase. It is the only place in the Middle East where the number of Christians is rising.
In the Palestinian territories by contrast, the Christian population has declined from 15 percent in 1950 to less than 2 percent today.
Christians are running away from Gaza – I know because I personally helped many of them. Less than 2,000 Christians remain there.
Remember Rami Ayyad? He was a member of the Baptist Church, managed Gaza's only Christian bookstore and was involved in many charitable activities. He was found shot in the head, his body thrown on a Gaza street in 2007.
Remember how in May 2008 a bomb detonated outside a Christian school in Gaza City? This was not the first bombing of the Zahwa Rosary School, maybe you studied there yourself.
Remember how in January 2008, a convoy of over 400 Christians left Gaza for Bethlehem, and did not plan on returning?
Remember how Hamas bans any celebration of Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Gaza?
Maybe you don’t, but here is one thing you must remember:
A Middle East that has no room for Jews, is a middle East that has no room for Christians, or any other minority.

BREAKING: Last night, at the Manitoba Legislative Building, Minister Nellie Kennedy announced that the province has become the first in Canada to officially recognize anti-Palestinian racism as a distinct form of discrimination!
We welcome this historic step, secured through years of advocacy by Palestinians and their supporters including CPAM, @nccm, @CanArabLaw, and IJV.
IJV urges all provinces and the federal government to follow suit.

In December 2023, I wrote that Israel’s definition of Hamas “affiliation” was so broad that you could be considered affiliated simply for buying a shawarma from a restaurant owned by a Hamas member.
I was criticized for making a claim I couldn’t substantiate. I had no report to cite. My analysis was grounded in years of observing and studying Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, and in my own family’s experience of that oppression.
Nearly three years later, accounts of the documentary Naza describe an Israeli intelligence official explaining how an AI targeting system could identify a baker as a Hamas operative simply because Hamas members bought bread from his bakery, potentially leading to an attack on his home and family.
The resemblance is staggering. I was immediately reminded of my post. I even wondered if I’d succumbed to the criticism and deleted it. I’m glad I didn’t.
What’s frustrating is how often observations about despicable Israeli practices are dismissed until they’re corroborated by Israeli insiders or investigative journalists. There’s an important difference between an analysis that hasn’t yet been substantiated and one that has no reasonable basis.
I wasn’t making a random guess in 2023. I was identifying a pattern. And the evidence that has emerged since then has given that analysis substantial support.
This is not even an exaggeration.
Israel’s use of the word “affiliated” is very broad and doesn’t include membership in Hamas. You could be “affiliated” if you have a distant relative who’s a member, or if you used to buy your shawarma from a joint that was owned by a member.
I just finished watching Naza in Toronto. Hannah Arendt’s banality of evil came to life. We all saw the dogs eating Palestinian corpses in Gaza on our phones but it was another thing to hear from the sadists who said they enjoyed watching the dogs. Longer review to come.
Recorded months ago, this was the first time I spoke publicly about the anti-Palestinian racism I experienced at Sinai Health in Toronto, when I started advocating against the genocide in Palestine.
The hospital hired a lawfirm that sponsors the Walk for Israel to oversee the process.
What we go through is nothing compared to what our colleagues in Palestine are enduring, but the widespread silencing by our institutions is a tool that helps enable the ongoing genocide and we must collectively push back against it.
Our colleagues in Palestine are still fighting for the health and liberation of their people, and we have a duty to stand in solidarity, take material actions, and keep throwing stones into the gears of genocide – until Palestine is Free.
Thank you for the conversation, Everyday Orientalism (whose Twitter account was suspended...).

Gaza’s Greek Orthodox Church held funeral services today for Maysa Daoud and her daughter, Mary, who were killed while sleeping when an Israeli strike hit their apartment in western Gaza City, according to Gaza’s Civil Defense.
Civil Defence said five civilians, including three women and a child, were killed in the strike, and shared footage of its crews joining members of Gaza’s Christian community at the funeral for the victims.
🚨Israel murdered this mother and her daughter yesterday in Gaza. They attended Holy Family Catholic Church. They bombed their apartment building killing them and critically injuring their family members. This is a Holocaust of our time, and the world needs to do something to stop this!

🚨BREAKING🚨The genocidal state of Israel just murdered two Catholic women from Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza. They bombed their apartment building. A mother and her daughter. The rest of their family is injured.
DO SOMETHING NOW
@JDVance@SecRubio@POTUS
Israel just killed another mother and daughter from our Christian community in Gaza. Maysa and Mary Abu Dawoud had been sheltering at the Holy Family Catholic Church, but returned to their apartment when it was struck, killing them both, along with three others.
Israel did not give polio vaccinations to Palestinians in Gaza. This is a lie.
UNWRA, WHO, and UNICEF gave polio vaccinations Gaza. Israel did not.
Israel BLOCKED THE ENTRY OF SOAP, which caused the polio outbreak.
This week, the @globeandmail published an editorial that recklessly linked the antisemitic attack in Belleville to anti-Zionism, without any evidence.
This is not only factually unfounded, but it also represents a dangerous journalistic error. It is increasingly clear the shooter was motivated by far-right extremism, which needs to be named and confronted.
We filed a formal complaint with the editors urging a correction and the removal of these unsubstantiated claims.
For the first time, the Canadian government has explicitly defined anti-Zionism as a form of antisemitism. This is an appalling capitulation to pro-Israel actors like CIJA and anti-Palestinian racism.
Zionism forms the ideological backbone of Israel's state-sanctioned violence against Palestinians. Our government quietly redefining it as a form of bigoted hate against Jews as a group is both offensive and inaccurate, and it endangers all Canadians' right to freedom of expression.
We call for an immediate retraction, acknowledgement of the incredible harm this mischaracterization does to Palestinian and Jewish communities, and a recognition of anti-Zionism as a legitimate political viewpoint grounded in social justice.
Bari Weiss murdered Refaat Alareer by falsely painting him as a terrorist with her platforms.
The IDF acted on her words, killing the poet professor and his entire family.
