I need to make a correction, free speech is a qualified right in the UK and terrorist sentament is not included in the uk human rights act of 1998.

However I would still argue that his speech does not meet the statutory threshold for supporting terrorism as he was just saying, “they are the best, they will kill you” he does not expect anyone to emulate his opinion. He is also mentally ill undiagnosed with a language barrier and being lured onto the stage to say these stupid things.

Well I hate to have to rely on Google. But you do still have freedom of expression per the 1998 human rights act. “Under Section 3 of the Human Rights Act 1998, UK courts are required to interpret legislation in a way that is compatible with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).” That includes freedom of expression. With that there is a reasonableness test “A core defense is arguing that the prosecution has failed to meet the high statutory threshold required for a conviction. For a statement glorifying terrorism to be illegal, it must be shown that members of the public could reasonably be expected to infer that the conduct should be emulated by them in existing circumstances” and I think it’s very debatable to say that he was actually expecting anyone to infer that his sentiment was ment to specifically be replicated. Furthermore it is not easy for members of the public to replicate such a vague opinion which your law has to make room for as opinions are protected under freedom of expression.
