1) costs wat to much money up front
2) only solves a minor part of the overall problem
3) is likely impossible to repair and is easier to just throw out

@zeroforco @shawngorham I’m a big fan of things should probably be closer to what they were 10 years ago. $5-6k seems reasonable for a new bike. Especially considering the technology doesn’t really advance much.

Austin delivered 81,000 apartments in four years. Now 73% of metro units are offering concessions and avg asking rent has dropped from $1,622 in 2022 to $1,366. Build enough housing and landlords start competing for tenants instead of the other way around!

I bought this truck for ~$5k and it does need a lot of work. With it I received all the parts to fully restore it which I am currently doing.

All in I’m expecting to turn this into a daily driver for $10-12k.

What do you think? Is this something you would pursue or would you stick with a newer vehicle for this setup?

I bought a 1985 Toyota pickup for ideological reasons.

The owner’s manual says you should understand this truck as well as the people who built it. It shows you how to do EVERYTHING.

A socket set and a Phillips screwdriver take apart 99% of it. No advanced automotive equipment or degree.

This truck is from the beginning of fuel injection, and before cars became complex computers.

And it’s blue. Actual 80s blue. Why did we stop building cars with beauty? When I restore it, this little truck will light up a road full of black, grey, and white.

This truck is borderline immortal. Thats the reason they’re the truck of choice for the Taliban.

And finally as cars turn into surveillance devices you rent and can’t repair, a machine you fully own, understand, and can fix isn’t just nostalgia. It’s quite literally going to be the only way to remain free.
