Allow me to speak to you not just as a voter, but as a Borana professional from Modogashe in Isiolo south and as a son of a community that values dignity of leadership.

First, let me state what is obvious to all Kenyans that there is hardly a leader in this country whose generosity rivals yours. This is not flattery. It is a reputation you carry everywhere you go. You have touched lives in villages, hospitals, funerals and schools in ways only God can truly reward you. “Sonko” long ceased being just a name; it is synonimous with rescuer.

When you were lured and opted to step into Isiolo South politics, you did not tiptoe. You arrived like a charging buffalo, unapologetic, energetic, fearless. In a matter of days, you took a political non-entity and gave it national attention. You shook the trees. You disturbed the comfort of entrenched power. You forced conversations that did not exist. Even the presidency took notice. It is not a small thing to compel attention at that level.

Among the Borana, we say the heaviest load a man carries is his pledge (qolki). A leaders promise is not mere words; it is identity. When Fayo walked away, the elders, the sheikhs, the youth and all Borana across Kenya, felt wounded. Not because politics shifted. Politics always shifts. But because a leaders commitment (qolki) changed. Betrayal leaves a deeper scar than defeat. Today, Fayo carries that shameful weight socially and in our culture, that shame does not fade easily.

Sir let me offer you perspectives to consol you. In 2022, William Ruto received overwhelming support from Isiolo county more than any other place in northern Kenya. It was not because he campaigned more. It was protest. It was anger. Many felt that Uhuru gave Borana candidates a raw deal during party nominations. He betrayed Borana and People voted in response to that perceived injustice. We hate betrayers. This betrayal may be the reason for our people to love you more. The humiliation Fayo subjected you to will for ever hurt us. It will haunt us until the day we appease you. Insha Allah.

I want you to draw strength from our religion too. When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) passed away, grief overwhelmed the believers. It was khalifa Abu Bakr who stood and reminded them: “Whoever worshiped Muhammad, Muhammad is dead. But whoever worships Allah, Allah is Ever-Living.”

The lesson here is, if what you did was for a man, that man has walked away. But if what you did was for the poor, the forgotten, the hungry child, the struggling widow, they are still there. Kindly remain faithful to them.

Finally, not everyone who enters our lives is meant to stay. Some come to test us. Some come to teach us restraint. You trusted Fayo. You thought he was genuine. Trusting is not foolishness. It is strength. You opened your heart for him. Being open is not weakness. It is leadership. Do not carry regret. Carry the lesson.

Fayo may have been a chapter for you but you have not read the book about Isiolo south or Borana. Dont condemn us from one chapter.

We are sorry for the dissapointment and regret. This betrayal has given the whole society a bad image. We shall one day cleanse ourselves.
