With heavy hearts, members of the Halton Regional Police Service and our policing partners stood in solidarity to honour the life of Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto.

These last two weeks have been the most tragic in recent memory within our policing community and family, with six officers killed or seriously injured.

Each of these tragedies highlight the stark reality of the danger of our profession. Yet despite these risks, police officers across the country continue to show up with courage and pride, prepared to stand on the frontlines so the communities they serve can live secure and peaceful lives.

Our badge is a beacon of light and symbolizes our unconditional commitment to deliver on the oath we have sworn; to protect the public and each other, no matter the cost.

Though the loss of Constable Pinizzotto and every police officer is deeply painful, we choose to come together as a community in our shared bond of service.

This morning's graduation ceremony welcomed 113 new provincial constables to the #OPP and 11 constables to their respective First Nations police services. Though our service is in mourning over the tragic loss of Sergeant Brandon Malcolm, we cannot forget to pause to celebrate these new officers as they step into their new responsibilities and join the policing community, a goal that many have aspired to achieve their entire lives.
