Must read.
“Black patients had ~3x more hypoxemia that was not detected by pulse oximetry as White patients.
...reliance on pulse oximetry to triage patients and adjust supplemental oxygen levels may place Black patients at ⬆️ risk for hypoxemia.”

I love having our med students open up our specimens before we send down to Path! Being able to touch and feel the path they have only read about is so important! How do you incorporate your MSs? #SurgEd#fibroids#endometriosis#adenomyosis@ClevelandClinic
The wellbeing of pregnant and birthing people has emerged as both a leading indicator and a bellwether for the wellbeing of all of us, especially those who are most vulnerable.
Nearly every societal injustice is evident in the health of those who are pregnant.
Congrats to Estela DiFranco Field, BSN, MSN, CNM, who has been appointed Assoc Med Dir for @DukeHospital Birthing Center. She will work in partnership with newly appointed Med Dir @j_gil, who began in her new position at DUH on October 1, 2020. @DukeHealth https://t.co/ASIS7QZNj4
“The care you deliver heals you too.”
Loved this beautiful reminder from today.
We talk often about vicarious trauma, but very little about the vicarious healing that happens when we help others move toward wellness. It changes who we are and is at the heart of this profession.
I’ve said it before: medicine has a race problem and it’s time for medical professionals to get on board with doing the hard work to rectify it.
We owe it to our colleagues, ourselves and most importantly our patients to do better and be better.
Today’s the day! #EarlyVoting starts today in NC - here’s some super simple info for folks at @DukeMedSchool and @DukeU! For more and to check wait times (yes, you can do that this year!!) visit https://t.co/t1fAMJOOSN
