It is regarded as foundational for automation theory, complex systems, and artificial life.

Von Neumann's goal, as specified in his lectures at the University of Illinois in 1949, was to design a machine whose complexity could grow automatically akin to biological organisms under natural selection.

He asked what is the threshold of complexity that must be crossed for machines to be able to evolve.

Investigator @MuppetMasher ID’d the mustache in the white cap as Noah J. Gonzalez, Utah Highway Patrol, Protective Services Bureau. That is not a random campus cop. That is a state trooper from the unit that does dignitary work, kneeling with students in the courtyard after Charlie was hit and turning the moment into a free-speech prayer before a hospital, a suspect, or a motive had been announced.

Watch both clips together. In one he is ripping the star off his chest the second a camera finds him. In the other he is already framing the killing as an attack on speech — which is just the polite way of saying it was political and the other side did it — while the official story was still a blank page. Nobody on that lawn knew who fired. Gonzalez was already preaching the sermon Turning Point needed. That is not pastoral care. That is a narrative arriving before the facts.

Just as predicted, Bessent is buying back $12.5 billion in US Treasuries this week because there are no buyers left.

China dumped $41 billion, Japan dumped $47 billion, and there is $240 billion in foreign selling in 30 days. Long-term yields have hit 20-year highs. There is a buyers' strike on American debt and the Treasury Secretary is stepping in to buy our own bonds with our own money.

The GENIUS Act requires every stablecoin issuer to hold reserves in short-term US Treasuries. That means every digital dollar minted is a forced buyer of government debt. Bessent himself said stablecoins could absorb $1 trillion of our debt, and I'm sure the current open investigations against Tether will disappear if they own $1T in US debt. I digress.

He is doing the buybacks right now to keep the bond market from collapsing while the stablecoin law spins up the replacement buyers. Foreign central banks are walking away and private digital dollar companies are walking in. They are legally required to buy Treasuries no matter what the yield is.

The buybacks are his bridge to the stablecoin destination.
