@BigioNina@NYUAppliedPsych Thank you Nina! On top of being French myself, I’m interested in how wider social dynamics and ideologies impact people’s identities and wellbeing. Citizenship is one of the many wider factors that shape who we are, and I wanted to capture what this identity can mean for people.
@cassie_wuest@NYUAppliedPsych Thanks Cassie! Participants ranged from ages 20-60, but the large majority were between 41-60 years old. Given that participants who valued formal civic participation were older than participants in the other category, we wonder if age plays a role in ideas about citizenship.
@kasanetone @NYUAppliedPsych Thank you! The two themes both resembled previously identified conceptions of citizenship (either in France or in general), but we still saw some nuances in our findings that set these categories apart. Feel free to DM me if you want more details!
@maggiezhang21@NYUAppliedPsych Thank you Maggie! The biggest challenge was narrowing down the amount of codes! We started with a little over 600 and ended with about 200. We went through every code and excerpt several times to make sure we narrowed things down without losing meaning.
@AS_Sighting Thank you for your question! Participants who valued formal civic participation were all between the ages of 41-60, whereas participants who valued community participation ranged from ages 20-60. It would be interesting for future research to observe generational differences!
@rachelxz_lim @NYUAppliedPsych Thank you! Research generally relies on established constructs such as ethnic citizenship or civic citizenship. The formal civic engagement conception is similar to the civic citizenship construct, which also emphasizes formal participation in civic life!
@kasanetone Congrats Kas! Do you expect that results might have been different if you compared the perspective of Whites vs East Asian-Whites (as opposed to POC more broadly)?
It’s an @NYUAppliedPsych UG (APUG) tradition that honors students find out they have achieved honors as they walk across the stage. Virtual walk: @V_Mesalles @handrew2020 @maggiezhang21@AlienorMotte@BigioNina, CONGRATS! You did it!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
@NYUAppliedPsych@maggiezhang21 Congrats Maggie! Out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why you chose a biological measure of stress as opposed to a questionnaire/scale type of assessment?
