@dwrightman@pothen You are right that in the past, Ontarians paid an unusually high rate for wind and solar —largely due to choices by past governments.
Cost estimates for *new* wind, solar, nuclear and gas are very different than the past averages shown in the OEB report.
My take on this plan?
It risks making life worse for Ontarians by leading to
- higher bills
- increased reliance on U.S. imported gas
-greater air pollution
- more severe climate damages
Not what we needed, not what we deserve!
The piece she's quoting is a huge mess. It conflates peak *supply* and peak *demand*, and spends most of its time talking about the former.
Nobody, to be clear, is actually worried about the former.
We have an opportunity to protect the Ontario we love! 🌳💧🧑🌾🐟🌎

🚨 A recent report shows that the Alberta Energy Regulator did NOT investigate 97% of the reported toxic tailings leaks in the tar sands! #abpoli
Not investigating the leaks means it’s not known just how damaging the leaks are.
The Alberta Energy Regulator is supposed to protect Albertans and the environment, but instead the regulator is putting the environment and people, especially Indigenous peoples, at risk.

BREAKING:
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirms that he will be resigning as Prime Minister after a new Liberal leader is elected, says he told his kids the news Sunday night and now sharing it with the nation. #cdnpoli
Trudeau government’s carbon price has had ‘minimal’ effect on inflation and food costs,
“That’s roughly 1/38th of the overall 19-per-cent increase in consumer prices over the past five years, with the effect on food prices being “even smaller,””

A new paper from a pair of Alberta academics makes it clear that the cost of the carbon tax is far less than its critics would like to pretend.
Will our feelings start to care about the facts? #cdnpoli

New research shows that the carbon tax caused 0.5% of inflation since 2019
In other words, the carbon tax is NOT driving inflation
I repeat: the carbon tax is NOT driving inflation

At COP28 countries launched the #COFFIS coalition to #StopFundingFossils
They had promised to release their fossil fuel subsidy inventories by COP29 & many did
But Canada missed the deadline
@cafreeland & @s_guilbeault: we need transparency - release the inventory now!
