This morning, Pete Hoekstra, @USAmbCanada, used his official account to push the 51st state idea.
He's downplayed that in the past, now he's pushing it.
If this is what he believes, perhaps it's time for the Carney government to ask him to leave.

@mlozon3 The wind and solar jobs are all lower paid non-union while the nuclear jobs are good paying union jobs. The progressive parties need to ditch the green nonsense.
@ChrisBa74469894@joel40hands@hkbitcoiner@WSOnlineNews Remember that it was Biden who pulled the plug on Keystone XL. Trump will be replaced in a couple years. A future Democrat president may once again screw over the Alberta oil industry.
@ChrisBa74469894@joel40hands@hkbitcoiner@WSOnlineNews Alberta has sometimes run large deficits. Do you think a newly independent AB taking on additional federal spending like defense, foreign affairs etc. would still be able to borrow money while shutting off revenue from Canadian sales?
@ChrisBa74469894@joel40hands@hkbitcoiner@WSOnlineNews Yes, an independent Alberta could shutdown the TC pipeline but that would be a blow to the natural gas producers in Alberta and to the finances of an Alberta government.
@ChrisBa74469894@joel40hands@hkbitcoiner@WSOnlineNews Natural gas liquids would include propane but not natural gas. Natural gas not propane is how most of Ontario heats its houses. Most Albertans have a better understanding of the oil & gas industry than you do.
@LZBataan@GHT120@Microinteracti1 The U.S. doesn't have the spare 4000MW of continuous electricity capacity to smelt aluminum to replace imports from Canada. It will take years for the U.S. to build that capacity and the cost of U.S. aluminum will always be much higher.
@ChrisBa74469894@joel40hands@hkbitcoiner@WSOnlineNews 70% of Ontario's natural gas now comes from the U.S. Not sure how an independent Alberta could shutdown Line 5 without shutting down all oil to the U.S. at the same time. An independent Alberta would have no jurisdiction on where the oil in Enbridge's pipelines goes in the U.S.
@Zecco9999@RazorOil The Canadian and U.S. coastguard have icebreaker s that are used to help with commercial shipping, maybe the fleets could be expanded to keep a longer shipping season. Necessary maintenance is done on the locks when the shipping season is closed. https://t.co/uazzU7olIH
