Is there space for condom use negotiation among #AGYW in Kilifi County? What does Condom Use Negotiation itself mean?
Condom use negotiation among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) refers to the ability to communicate and advocate for condom use in sexual relationships to protect against HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and unintended pregnancies. It involves verbal and non-verbal strategies to ensure safer sex practices, However, in Kilifi County, our gender dynamics, social norms, and power imbalances make negotiation challenging. Therefore, what are the #AGYW asking for? AGYW in their diversity, we engage are asking for support of the factors influencing condom use negotiation specifically education, improvement of economic status, transformation of gender attitudes, and access to sexual health information. Studies show that AGYW with higher education levels and financial independence are more likely to successfully negotiate condom use. Additionally, exposure to HIV prevention programs and gender-equitable attitudes will enhance their ability to advocate for safer sex. Therefore, strengthening condom use negotiation skills through education, empowerment programs, and community support is reducing HIV risks and promoting sexual health among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Kilifi County and beyond. #2gether4SRHR #HerSpaceKilifi #HerVoiceKilifi #RedefiningFamilyPlanningKE #AccelerateAction2025

We advocate for Gender equality in Kilifi County both as a principle and a value cardinal to actualization of sustainable development. As a principle because it influentially guides ensuring all individuals, regardless of gender, have equal access to resources and opportunities and also valuing different behaviours, aspirations and needs equally and addressing the societal tendency to assign different roles and statuses based on gender.
