Never forget that the local authorities who voted to paint “Black Lives Matter” on city streets could’ve just voted to reform their police departments.
What would happen if all the “40 under 40” or “30 under 30” lists excluded people whose parents paid for their college, paid the down payment on their first place, or paid the bills while they worked unpaid or low-wage internships?
A government that shuts down the press is afraid and threatened. Afraid that the truth will be revealed, critical minds will question their abuse of power and an informed citizenry will take that power away.
They are afraid of the people, and rightfully so. #DefendPressFreedom
Today, Breonna Taylor should have been celebrating her 27th birthday.
It has been 84 days since she was brutally killed by police officers. None of them have yet been charged with her murder.
We demand justice. NOW.
We need to re-imagine the role police play in our society. It's time for our country to stop investing in police and start investing in our schools, communities, and people.
Instead of spending $80 billion a year on jails and incarceration, we need to be investing in more jobs and education. One thing is abundantly clear: Every police department violating people's civil rights must be stripped of federal funding. Period.
More peaceful protestors and journalists have been jailed in the past week than all the bankers who were jailed for fraud during the financial collapse.
We need real police department reform. Every police officer involved in a killing must be held accountable, and those found guilty must be punished with the full force of the law. Every killing of a person held in police custody must be investigated by the Department of Justice.
