Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones.
There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice!
Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."

Join us for an exhibition featuring photographic #portraits by Sean Hayes and #poetry by #Irish poet Alison Mooney, both elegantly printed on silk scarves.

You're invited to the vernissage on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM, hosted at the Glass Gallery at the @MaisonFrancite #Brussels

The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday, March 26 to Thursday, April 18, 2024. Visit us Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, excluding weekends and holidays.

Following the vernissage, a poetry soirée will commence at 8 PM in the spacious Hêle hall of the Maison de la Francité. Alison Mooney will showcase her collection of poems and perform selected readings, in collaboration with musician @YacineAzaiez .

Admission is free for both the vernissage and the poetry evening.

I've had the privilege of joining Alison on her journey to find her unique literary voice through poetry over the past two years as her #photographer

The images below reference a collection of #portraitshots I captured for her book titled 'Balance.' These portraits are set to be exhibited at her forthcoming poetry recital at the @MaisonFrancite on Tuesday, March 26th, at 8 PM.

Alison's talent extends beyond her prowess in selecting the perfect words; she also possesses a skill in calligraphy, which I had the pleasure of incorporating into the artwork for the exhibition.
