Throughout history, the rights of women have been progressed by challenging inequality and standing together to fight discrimination. Women trade unionists have always been a driving force in the movement, organising, campaigning and leading the fight for justice - but the fight isn't just history.
Today, as we're celebrating #InternationalWomensDay, we remember the women who have made great strides in the movement and salute members, reps and trade unionists who are continuing the fight for secure jobs, fair pay and decent conditions today ✊
Unite member Mair talks about women in the trade union movement.

✊ During Unite National Women’s Week a passionate group of reps took a powerful stand by visiting the striking @BhamCityCouncil bin workers.
🫶 They came together to show their unwavering solidarity.
Our WM @unitetheunion Women's Committe are asking
"How long do women have to wait to get equal pay?!"
Whether it’s addressing #PayInequality or tackling workplace #harassment through our collective voice we can driving change that makes work a fairer, better place.
The roots of #InternationalWomensDay are in protest & strike action. Don't let corporates claim it.
From women's suffrage, to textile & garment workers on strike for fair working conditions. International Women's Day has always been about fighting collectively for our rights.
As we commemorate #IWD2025 and the struggles that women have lead internationally, let's focus on the fight ahead. Workers need strong trade unions that are dedicated to protecting & advancing terms & conditions, pushing for good quality jobs & workplaces free of discrimination.
Women need strong trade unions, dedicated to equality. We deserve quality jobs. And we demand a society free of discrimination.
As women, let's fight for this together. Join Unite today.
