Productive 3 days at #COP29Azerbaijan.

It started with smooth adoption of the agenda and CMA decision related to Article 6.4. We’re seeing achievements and progress with major announcements made on Loss and Damage Fund and MDBs sharing their projection of reaching $170 billion annually for collective climate financing.

Yesterday, the Leaders’ Summit of the Small Island Developing States on Climate Change offered an important platform for SIDS to raise their priorities and concerns, such as accessibility of climate finance – a key priority for the COP29 Presidency.

We’re also seeing progress on BTRs as we’ve called for early submissions. We welcome the submissions from Andorra, Spain, Guyana, Japan, Panama, Kazakhstan, Turkiye, the Netherlands, and Singapore.

I look forward to seeing further progress on the negotiations front in the days to come, building on fruitful discussions we’ve had so far.

As part of the COP29 Presidency's ongoing participation at UNGA, President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev outlined the critical threats posed by rising sea-levels, at the High-level Plenary Meeting. Drawing from recent visits to Antigua, Barbuda, and Tonga, Babayev highlighted the urgent need to support Small Island Developing States (SIDS) against the devastating impact of climate change. COP29 also committed to funding SIDS delegations for the COP29 event in Baku. The Presidency held productive bilateral meetings, including one with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and co-hosted an event with @InstituteGC on how technology can drive greater climate ambition.
