The Tobacco and Vapes Bill would help to prevent cancers, reduce pressure on the NHS and save lives.
We’re calling on all MPs to vote in favour of this world-leading Bill today.
It’s time for parliamentarians to prioritise the nation’s health and help achieve a #SmokefreeUK
How can a smoke free generation in the UK be created?

Today legislation to raise the age of sale of tobacco products passed its Second Reading in the Commons. An important step towards ending cancers caused by smoking.
Now, we want to see the legislation passed in the UK Parliament and implemented across the UK.
1/ We’re delighted that the UK Govt introduced a new Tobacco and Vapes Bill to Parliament today. Raising the age of sale of tobacco could help create a smokefree generation and bring us closer to ending cancers caused by smoking.

Legislation to tackle the biggest cause of cancer in the UK was brought to Parliament today. Raising the age of sale of tobacco would help prevent future generations from ever starting smoking.
We urge all MPs to vote in favour of this important step towards a #SmokefreeUK.🚭
We're delighted that legislation to raise the age of sale for tobacco was reintroduced to Parliament today.
Smoking is still the biggest cause of cancer in the UK, causing around 160 cases every day. We now urge MPs across the UK to support it to help create a #SmokefreeUK.
It was great to hear the Leader of the Opposition reaffirm his support for the Tobacco and Vapes Bill. Ending cancers caused by smoking is key to helping everyone in the UK live longer, better lives. #SmokefreeUK#LongerBetterLives
Smoking is the biggest cause of cancer in the UK. We were thrilled to hear the legislation to raise the age of sale of tobacco mentioned in the #KingsSpeech and we urge the UK Govt. to introduce the Bill swiftly.

Round 2 here we go!
Thrilled to have it announced in the #KingsSpeech that a bill to progressively increase the age of sale of tobacco products will be introduced.
Bold action like this one will help us end cancers caused by smoking for good & achieve a #SmokefreeUK.
We are among the organisations that have signed an open letter to the new Government urging them to reintroduce the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in the first King’s Speech on 17 July.
This is a vital step towards a #SmokefreeUK and reducing the number of cancers caused by smoking 🚭
This general election presents a real opportunity to be a #TurningPointforCancer. But this requires bold ambitions from all political parties.

The UK could avoid 34,000 deaths from cancer within a decade of the #GeneralElection, if the next UK Government takes urgent action to improve cancer outcomes.

Sadly this #WorldNoTobaccoDay we no longer have the Tobacco & Vapes Bill in parliament but that hasn’t changed how needed or popular this policy is.
All parties must commit to raising the age of sale of tobacco & the next UK Govt should introduce it in the King’s Speech.
Today, on #WorldNoTobaccoDay, we urge all political parties to include raising the age of sale for tobacco in their manifestos and for the next UK Government to commit to re-introducing the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in the King’s Speech to help create the first-ever #SmokefreeGeneration.
Ending cancers caused by smoking is one of five key pledges in our #CancerManifesto for #LongerBetterLives. You can share your support for our campaign by signing our open letter to party leaders 👉 https://t.co/8enAi8uPXT
And once again… all hell breaks loose the week I’m on leave. 😬
This is hugely disappointing BUT not the end of the road.
Raising the age of sale of tobacco has cross-party support & the public behind it.
All parties must commit to introducing it (swiftly) in manifestos. 🚭
1/ It's disappointing that the Tobacco & Vapes Bill will not progress before the #GeneralElection. As the biggest cause of cancer, nothing would have a greater impact on reducing the number of preventable deaths than ending smoking.

If the UK Government confirm the Tobacco and Vapes Bill will not become a new law, this will be a disheartening day for people affected by cancer, health professionals and campaigners who have worked tirelessly to save lives.
It is vital that all parties commit to introducing the Age of Sale Bill in the first King’s Speech after the #GeneralElection.
Let’s help cancers caused by smoking become a thing of the past.
Exec Director of Policy, Information & Communications @IanWalker_CRUK wrote for @Politics_co_uk about his recent trip to New Zealand, how the UK can learn lessons from their tobacco control experience & the importance of creating a #SmokefreeUK 🚭https://t.co/KZoIELHUYX
Today I gave evidence at the Tobacco and Vapes Bill Committee in UK Parliament. At @CR_UK we fully support the legislation to help create the first #SmokefreeGeneration and I urged the MPs present to back it in full. Together with supporters, this is what we’ve been campaigning for: to prevent young people developing an addiction to tobacco and reduce their risk of cancer.
