Huge congratulations to former Chief Executive of ASH Deborah Arnott for winning the @BTSrespiratory President's Medal last night.
As BTS said, Deborah has worked tirelessly for more than twenty years to reduce the harm caused by tobacco, and this award is very well deserved!
In a budget where it seems like the Chancellor was looking anywhere and everywhere for revenue raisers, the Government missed a trick by not listening to ASH's call for a polluter pays levy on tobacco manufacturers that could raise up to £5bn over 5 years.
Good morning #FCTCCOP11! We're looking forward to a productive week. Day 1 of our #COP11 Bulletin is now live: https://t.co/UB9hvJoMAV Articles: Seize the Momentum, Global Tobacco Index 2025, Interference around COP11, Safeguarding Global Health, The Death Clock & FLMs.
📻Listen to @HazelCheeseman on LBC as she discusses the letter signed by over 1,200 health experts urging the swift passage of the Tobacco & Vapes Bill.
This Bill is vital to protect the health of future generations - we can’t afford further delay!
In a letter published today in the BMJ, we call for urgent action to correct misperceptions of vaping.
As long as public perceptions of vaping are misaligned with evidence, the opportunity for vaping to further reduce smoking is being missed.

I'm sure the people working at Chiltern Firehouse to facilitate this event were delighted to be exposed to the secondhand smoke of celebrities and the super rich. If only there were a law against that...
For the avoidance of any doubt, Paracetamol remains the safest painkiller to take during pregnancy.
Yours sincerely,
The @DHSCgovuk Minister for Patient Safety
This study from @EveTaylor22 shows the scope for vape regulation that does not damage the likelihood of adult smokers switching to vaping. If Parliament can get on and pass the Tobacco and Vapes Bill then measures like this can be implemented: https://t.co/KRStCurqPv
We need the Tobacco and Vaping Bill to continue in the @UKHouseofLords asap. @thetimes today highlights the problem with 1 million smokers too ill to work (up 80% in a decade). Smokers are 3x more likely to be out of work due to poor health.
🎙️ Listen to @HazelCheeseman speaking on Times Radio about youth vaping and the urgent need to pass the Tobacco and Vapes Bill to protect children while balancing the needs of smokers to use vapes to quit.
🚭 New ASH data reveals inequalities in second-hand smoke exposure at work. While 14% of people in GB report workplace exposure, the figure soars in particular industries.
Here are some examples of brilliant services and the people they've helped to stop smoking:

Celebrating 25 years of stop smoking services!
Earlier this year, Gillian and Wendy visited Parliament and met @DHSCgovuk Minister Baroness Merron. From quitting smoking to becoming advisors, they’re breaking tobacco’s grip on their families.
⏳Today Parliament rises for summer recess, yet there is still no date for the Tobacco & Vapes Bill to be considered at committee stage in the House of Lords.
🗓️It has been 90 days since peers first debated this vital legislation. In that time:
Thank you to @BobBlackman MP, APPG on Smoking and Health Co-Chair, for pushing the Government today about the progress of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill- there is no time to waste!
Would love to hear from those who have helped people to quit and have been helped to quit as we celebrate 25 years of the amazing world leading stop smoking services in England
