“The punishment of the wicked is not an arbitrary act. It is designed to manifest the displeasure of God against sin and to make known His true character.” Charles Hodge.
“God’s wrath in the Bible is never the capricious, self-indulgent, irritable, morally ignoble thing that human anger so often is. It is instead a right and necessary reaction to objective moral evil. God is only angry when anger is called for.” J. I. Packer.
“Our failure to know God’s will and consequent inability to petition God specifically and confidently, that is met by God’s Spirit who Himself expresses to God those intercessory petitions that perfectly match the will of God. When we do not know what to pray for, yes, even when we pray for things that are not best for us, we need not despair for we can depend on the Spirit’s ministry of perfect intercession on our behalf. There is one in heaven, the Son of God, who intercedes on our behalf, defending us from all charges that might be brought against us guaranteeing salvation in the Day of Judgment. But there is also an intercessor in the heart, the Spirit of God who effectively prays to the Father on our behalf throughout the difficulties and uncertainties of our lives here on earth”. -Douglas Moo
“The necessity of holiness is absolute. No matter what professions we may make, or what hopes we may indulge, justification is never separated from sanctification.”
Charles Hodge.
“My heart’s desire unto God and the chief design of my life are that mortification [the killing of sin] and universal holiness may be promoted in my own and in the hearts and ways of others to the glory of God so that the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be adorned in all things”. - John Owen
“After all, if you(church) attract people by appealing to them as consumers, you will most likely retain them as consumers. And consumerism stifles authentic relationships”. - Mark Dever & Jamie Dunlop
“As a matter of fact the only hope you have to continue to reach out in love to a wayward spouse, or prodigal child, or an abusive parent or a hurtful fellow church member is to realise that the sins that you commit against the Lord are infinitely more provoking and offensive and grievous toward a holy God than a fellow sinner sinning against us. There is no comparison”. Pastor Parker Reardon.
“When our biblical meditation is drowned by social media scrolling, fixation on the news, and empty entertainment, the church will devolve into doctrinal shallowness, earthly mindedness, and missional fruitlessness”. Pastor Kyle
“Beloved I do not want any one of us to ever be in the way of the anger of Christ. And my plea is that we would all rejoice in His coming, willingly bow our knee before him, embrace Him with affection and give him not the kiss of Judas, but the kiss of love and affection in which he delights” R.C Sproul.
Kiss the Son, that He not be angry and you perish on the way,
For His wrath may be kindled quickly. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
Psalm 2:12
Bow the knee!
Your life will be most impactful if you devote your best time to the people who are receptive to you, rather than chasing after the people who aren’t.
Face it. At a certain point, you are who you are and you have a finite amount of time and energy. Moments and seasons pass. You don’t get them back.
Humans being what they are, not everyone will like and welcome you. You don’t have to swim upstream. Figure out who does embrace you, even if it’s only two or three, and recognize in them the door God has opened to you.
You don’t have to resent the others, or exclude them altogether, to exercise wisdom in your choices. And yes, at times conflict will be unavoidable. You can deal with that as needed.
Don’t let such things on the margin hinder you from grasping the central point here. It helps you allocate your time and affection to the best and most lasting effect.
Pastors, I say it in love. You especially should pay heed. Ministry is hard enough as it is.
Peace.- Don Green.
Our relationship to the word of God is a chief indicator of the pathway I am on; and they are only two ways. The way of the righteous and the way of the wicked.
The righteous take pleasure, they love God’s law!
“Here then are two completely different lives, lives totally opposed to one another – the life of the old self, and the life of the new. They are what Jesus termed the broad road that leads to destruction, and the narrow road that leads to life. Paul calls them slaveries. By birth we are slaves of sin; by grace and faith we have become slaves of God. The slavery of sin yields no return, except a steady, moral deterioration and finally death. The slavery of God yields the precious return of sanctification and finally eternal life”. -John Stott.
