While murder isn’t on HOME initiative supporters minds – getting the old folks to move out certainly is.  It is insulting to be expected to move into an ADU or condo when I worked hard for my home.

The problem is not affordable housing, rather it is homeowners who are unwilling to be bulldozed by corrupt policies to benefit 3rd party.

the market has solved the affordability issue by making less expensive housing options further from the core. Let's not fight the market, which in all places when tried, have been an abject failure: NY rent control, to socialism in Venezuela and the former Soviet Union.

The complexity of taxation and ownership with multiple units would require condo associations or owner/landlord LLCs. It is not geared towards home owners.

A couple of billionaires and a some developers have usurped an issue "affordable housing" which is a legitimate issue with a valid constituency, but it has attracted or funded a gaggle of ideologues, people with grievances and astro turf agitators

So... the city added significant incentives for developers to still churn out a disproportionately low number of affordable housing units compared to total constructed.

These decisions have significant impact to the SF residential properties abutting commercial properties and well as vehicle incursion into the surrounding neighborhood areas.

Perhaps the new complex blocks your morning sun; perhaps you wake up in the middle of night when drunken partygoers throw trash and bottles from the balcony onto your roof. You can imagine these and other negative effects on your neighborhood.

her solution is the problem. The "solution" is as follows. Your neighbor sell their house to an investor/developer. Developer scrapes the bungalow, clear the trees on the 10,000 sqft lot and build a 12 unit short term rental complex, next to your house in a quiet neighborhood.

I sense that your disdain for single family homes and their owners appears to be driving your motivation for "density" and "urbanism" more than it is to solve any practical issues that the city faces.

Moreover, I know many families living in the suburbs. None of them have any interest in living in a triplex in central Austin. Has anyone bothered to survey them?

I have no objection to such establishments, it's just not what I wanted for my family. I wanted a yard with sunlight and big trees.

I chose the neighborhood  over 30+ because it was zoned SF. If I wanted to live in an area of multistoried buildings and multiple homes on small lots then perhaps I could have moved to a different area or a mobile home park.

One of the socially unsettling assumptions
is that the residents of tall buildings have a
right to disturb the privacy of residential
back yards.

Yet - as long as developers promise a paltry # of affordable units, Council gives them carte blanche.  Affected neighborhoods be damned.  And then there's carving up established neighborhoods to increase density by 9 -12x existing residential mass.

where on Burnet would you put it?  There are buildings, store widows, etc.  If you want art - there are places to see it - ifyou want you house to be an art work - that's up to you.but you better check with the neighbors.

come and express your opinion about artwork on Burnet!!  we do not need it!!  we have it downtown --

Also as noted, if restrictions have been repeatedly broken already in your subdivision, you won't get enforcement. Unfortunately, many 2 story houses have been built against restrictions all over the 'hood.

Now, they want the long time Central City residents to
pay the bill for their trying to please the developers in
their offices buffing their egos.
