Reading for pleasure has fallen by 40 percent since 2000. This is not progress. You should read because it's good for your brain, your soul. You should read because our freedoms will not long endure in a post-literate world. Most of all, you should read because it's fun.
A storm chaser named Freddy McKinney helped a family that was hit by a tornado in Hawley Texas and suffered injuries. This is the longest clip I could find. Video marked as sensitive content though it has been reported that everyone survived.
#Idalia is now a Category 2 hurricane, with winds at 100 mph as of the latest advisory. It's located about 195 miles southwest of Tampa, moving north at 16 miles per hour. https://t.co/BDdVbVayuD
🚨 8/28 2pm: Storm Surge Warnings are in effect for Citrus, Dixie, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Levy, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, Taylor & Wakulla counties.
This means a life-threatening storm surge (as seen in the time-lapse video below) is expected within 36 hrs.
Since so many of you are asking I will address this with a tweet.
Yes I am going to Florida. I am still sorting out details with TWC, but I wanted to get the newest data before making a decision. I am going to be on air Monday morning from 6-9am on @AMHQ then traveling with my producer @StevePetyerak and our team to Florida by early afternoon. By then a location and back up will be determined. Thanks again for asking.
Based on model run trends this morning, and the fact that impacts from Idalia may be felt as soon as Tuesday afternoon, I would expect hurricane and storm surge watches to be issued for some of Florida's Gulf coast later today. Those watches will likely include portions of our west coast.
By definition, a hurricane watch means hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or greater) are possible within your area within 48 hours.
Also, based on model trends, I would expect NHC to be forecasting a stronger hurricane at landfall than has been predicted up to this point. #Idalia
