The Federal government through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment on September 14, 2020 launched the Backward Integration Programme” Certificate (BIPC). The BIPC is an initiative designed to accelerate growth in Nigeria's real sector especially fabricators and
Complete Knocked Down/Semi-complete Knocked Down assemblers.BIPC would help stimulate growth of top-notch processors, assemblers and CKD integrators.
Stakeholders agree that the fabrication & assembly is one layer of industry value chain that requires some bit of regulation.
Today, we have seen advancement of the local footwear industry move from artisinal production to mechanized production gradually. There an increased level of input from local machinery producers in production processes. Places like Nnewi hold a large portion of such firms today.
Likewise, no industry of this nature can grow beyond adapting its own local technologies to boost productivity and the introduction of BIPC's would help Finished Leather Producers work with professionally accredited fabricators and adopt CKD models in achieving sectoral growth
