Camera settings for tonight’s PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE! 📷

Mount your DSLR or mirrorless camera on a sturdy tripod, switch to manual mode, and use a telephoto lens. Ideally 300mm or longer.

For the bright Moon, start around:

📷 ISO 200
📷 1/250-second shutter speed
📷 Adjust your aperture as needed

As more of the Moon slips into Earth’s shadow, gradually increase your ISO and slow the shutter speed.

Check your histogram and review your images frequently (the settings will change throughout the eclipse)

A star tracker (that moves with the motion of the sky) helps immensely and gives you much more control (that's what I used for my image!).

The Veil Nebula 😳

This month is the PERFECT time to photograph the Veil Nebula in Cygnus!

I captured this image of the Eastern Veil Nebula with my reflector telescope in the backyard - and it's my best yet. (gear pic in thread)

It's a bright, expanding supernova remnant located roughly 1,400 to 2,400 light-years from Earth.

It appears as a faint, curved, ghostly white arc of textured light resembling a delicate ribbon through a telescope.

This is my longest-ever exposure on the Veil, totaling 20 hours from my backyard in the city. I hope you like it. 😃

Last week’s spacewalk? Consider it a power‑up for the Space Station.

@NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Anil Menon stepped outside the @Space_Station last Thursday, Aug. 6, to prepare the 3B power channel for future roll-out solar arrays that will add power for critical operations, including its safe and controlled deorbit.

Up next: Another spacewalk is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 18. Astronauts will venture outside the orbiting laboratory to replace a space-to-ground communications antenna on the station.
