One of the first things I try to figure out about a candidate is whether they're cool or not.

Might just be the way I like to roll. But uptight people put a chokehold on the whole environment of the business and that squeezes creativity right out of it. 

What I want is folks who take the work seriously and don't take themselves seriously. Those people tend to be better stewards, already thinking about how to create value, how to serve customers, how to help their teammates, instead of how they look doing it.

Also just more enjoyable to be around, which counts for more than people want to admit.

What's the thing y'all screen for that never shows up on a resume?
