@RhBloodGroup @HermelinMD There is no evidence that such a transfusion would provide benefit and substantial evidence of potential harm. Many guidelines past and present would advocate for Transfusion. Those guidelines have no evidence to support them.

A platelets product has been donated by apheresis (PLT-APH). The patient has 18000 platelets per microliter. No clinical signs other than 39.2C fever. Can the PLT-APH product be transfused?

-Yes!
-If transfusion is indicated can go ahead with product
-Monitor closely for symptoms of rxn
--Chills/rigors
--SOB
--Hypotension
--Back Pain/Hematuria
--Pain at infusion site
--Change in temp >1°C

A blood donor donates platelets by apheresis (PLT-APH) requiring ~90 min at an apheresis instrument and a total of ~120 min turnaround time at the blood center. Is there an acceptable amount of reimbursement (not necessarily payment) to recruit PLT-APH donors?
