@scout_aussie "He's the best defender in Australian football. He has the highest ceiling of anyone.” - Ruben Zadkovic, 2024.
He called it. Could turn out to be Australia's version of Harry Redknapp's famous quote about Lampard.
@ALeagueHQ@marcothejourno Another Trewin case in the making. City will develop him further and then sell him to NYC for a tidy sum. Why do @brisbaneroar struggle to keep hold of promising youngsters?
@scout_aussie The key is where they go. If they go to a big club/league they don't work out. Toure and Herrington went to Denmark and MLS which is a better more gradual step. Irankunda wasn't getting any game time at Bayern, but the move to Watford has been much better.
@MattyWindley Side note, despite the dearth of mainstream coverage - I feel like there's more quality Oz football content than ever, especially with the launch of @football360au. After years of scrounging around for the odd article or podcast, I'm finding it hard to keep up with it all!
@MattyWindley Thanks Matt! Big fan of your work and enjoyed reading your responses. Looking forward to the next ep of Breaking Barriers and will be getting stuck into the Building Blocks podcast soon.
At the time, Ruben was laughed at for saying this. But it might turn out to be quite prescient,
à la Redknapp in 1996 saying Frank Lampard would go "right to the very top".
@ncfc024 This isn't the burn you think it is. I doubt that guy's an A-League fan. His bio has AC Milan in it. In Australia we have what we call 'Eurosnobs' who think any league outside the big 4 is trash, including our local league which many football 'fans' down under love to trash
@dkfcdotnet@NicR1999_ Yeah surely A-League standards haven't dropped so much that fans are impressed with signings from 3.Liga. If he does well, it might reflect poorly on the A-League.
@oneeyedvictory@ForeverMelbCity@AleagueSnob@DanielGarb@suitedbootedtv Which was fair. Diamanti's a great player and personality, but not a big name. Foxtel's $3 million marquee fund was reserved for players that would boost crowds and tv ratings like Del Piero and Cahill. Victory could've signed him themselves instead of expecting a handout.
@Ryan_NewZealand Agreed. Probably best to just let others discover it for themselves. And if they wanna have a go at you for enjoying it then that's their problem.
@StanSportFC Without doubt. One of the best players in the Eredivisie. Can't remember the last time an Aussie was a dominant player in a top European league
