Hachikō was an Akita dogfamous for his incredible loyalty to his owner, Professor Hidesaburō Ueno. After the professor died suddenly in 1925, Hachikō waited for him at Shibuya Station in Tokyo every day for almost 10 years, until his own death in 1935. His story made him a national symbol of devotion, and a bronze statue of him stands at the station.
