AMD has officially introduced the Radeon RX 9050, bringing 4GB graphics cards back with its new RDNA 4 lineup.

The standard retail RX 9050 includes 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and starts at $279, while AMD confirmed that some versions made for OEMs and pre-built PCs will ship with just 4GB of VRAM.

AMD has not announced a price for the 4GB OEM model.

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows includes a Global Device ID (GDID), a permanent identifier automatically assigned to a PC during installation.

According to Microsoft, the GDID is used for security purposes,The company says it is not used for advertising or tracking users across apps and websites.

Unlike advertising IDs, the GDID cannot be disabled or reset by users, as it is designed to remain tied to the device for its lifetime.
Microsoft publicly acknowledged the identifier only after it appeared in court documents related to an FBI investigation.

Valve has released SteamOS version 3.8, is now available to download.

This update improves performance on AMD-powered computers, including handhelds and regular desktops, while adding a simpler first-time setup process.

If you have an AMD graphics card, you can install it on your own PC to build a custom Steam Machine using the same operating system that powers the Steam Deck and the new official Steam Machine hardware.

Support is currently limited to AMD GPUs, but Valve is working on adding more graphics card options later.

Bad news, The European Commission has responded to the “Stop Destroying Videogames” initiative and decided not to make new laws about games becoming unplayable after support ends.

Instead, it plans to bring together consumer groups and the video game industry to discuss better end-of-life practices and possibly create voluntary guidelines.

A newly discovered security vulnerability known as Copy Fail, or CVE-2026-31431, has been disclosed in the Linux kernel.

It affects virtually every major Linux distribution released since 2017.

The flaw sits in the kernel’s cryptographic subsystem and stems from a logic error introduced back in 2017:

>It allows any local user without special privileges to escalate directly to root.

>The exploit is unusually simple: a short Python script can reliably achieve this by modifying data only in the system’s memory cache rather than on disk.

>In practice, an attacker can target any readable file, such as a setuid-root binary like sudo or su, and alter it only in RAM.

>The change is invisible to file integrity monitors and leaves no trace on the hard drive.

>The same technique also works from inside containers, potentially allowing an escape from Docker, Kubernetes, or similar environments to compromise the host server.

>This makes Copy Fail both stealthy and highly portable across systems.

Patches have already begun rolling out from major distributors. System administrators should apply the latest kernel updates and reboot as soon as possible.
