@dmc_dmcc No admin is. You are correct on that. However. I keep seeing people praise him and* call him a perfect mayor. There is LOTS more that needs to be done and people shouldn't forget that. NYC DOE paras need the help now and the mayor needs to be their champion as he promised.
@JulieSuLabor@NYCMayor The Mayor needs to do what he promised he would - be a Paraprofessional champion and finally get them the raises and respect they deserve. 32k starting is NOT sustainable.
@JulieSuLabor@NYCMayor Paraprofessionals were promised they'd have a fighter for them In the form of the new Mayor but, as usual, they got abandoned again. Paras do SO much for our students with special needs. They need help NOW. The RESPECT check keeps getting delayed and even that is not enough.
@dmc_dmcc You say this but Paraprofessionals were promised they would be fought for aggressively and yet they're ignored...again. If they don't care about those who work with special needs kids in our schools then they aren't getting praise from me...
@SahalieD What about prioritizing Paraprofessionals who work with our special needs students? All this priority for everything else EXCEPT paras who can't afford anything, literally.
@katie_honan@NYCMayor I'm waiting for someone to ask the Mayor about Paraprofessionals and where his energy to "fight for them" has gone. The council delays the RESPECT check constantly and paras will, as always, be ignored. Hotel maids score huge increases but paras can't even get a proper increase.
@tiffany_caban Can we for once put a focus and priority on our school Paraprofessionals? You've visited schools in your district recently so I'm sure you understand how hard they work, no? Respect check is a good start and they need more. They help students, but the job is not $ustainable...
@UFT Many paras have lost confidence in this ever happening. It's always delayed or not prioritized. Paras start at 32k and if this passed it would be a good start but it's still not nearly enough. Paras do important work but it's not sustainable. @ZohranKMamdani & others don't care.
@Brianr4NY@CatalinaCruzNY@NYHTC@CaringMRising@QueensWFP@NYPANetwork It would be nice if the city council & others in our local governments actually treated DOE workers with the same respect as hotel maids & healthcare workers. Teachers need more $ & don't even get me started on the lack of respect for Paraprofessionals who get literal breadcrumbs
@tiffany_caban@NYCMayor And don't even get me started on how it seems no one in local government even cares about paras. We get told we are "appreciated" but we end up with a RESPECT bill that's always delayed and breadcrumb raises. Of course an affordable apartment is near impossible...
@tiffany_caban@NYCMayor Ms. Caban, respectfully, I have a hard time believing that. Astoria seems to be neglected at every turn. "Affordable homes" end up being buildings replacing beloved locations with rents so high it's ridiculous. A paraprofessional, for example, would never be able to afford it.
@NYCMayor@CMAmandaFarias@CMShekarK@CMRitaJoseph@galeabrewer@DOEChancellor Until you show some kind of respect for Paraprofessionals, this is all hot air. I'm waiting to see you push the council constantly to pass the RESPECT check. And that's only a start...more is still needed NOW. If hotel maids can get 100k, paras should at least get more than 32k.
