I look back on my life, disabled since birth & paralysed since I was 15, never in my 60 years alive have I experienced such anger, hate & jealousy targeted at disabled people. All fueled by the Right & the media. I know I have never felt so angry at our society as I do now
Another common question about voting by mail is why there are holes in the ballot return envelope. In fact, you might have heard things about this in the media and on social media recently. The holes in the ballot return envelope help make voting accessible and ensure your ballot is processed and counted! Learn more about this common question by swiping along.
If you have questions about other accessible options that might help you or you are having difficulty voting because of a disability, DRC’s voting hotline is open year-round on weekdays during business hours (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) (and longer hours on Election Day). Call us at (888) 569-7955.
We will continue to share voting resources on DRC social media as Election Day gets closer!

NDRN is gathering stories outlining the voting experiences of people with disabilities so that we can evaluate the obstacles, and advocate for improvements.
If you have ever voted absentee or using a mail-in ballot, we would love to hear from you!

Even if you don't rely on Medicaid, rural hospitals do.
One in three of them will soon be forced to close down because of Trump and Republicans' deep, unprecedented cuts.
Over 300 are bracing for immediate closure.
It doesn't matter what kind of insurance you have if your hospital isn't there anymore.
And Republicans chose to shut down the government rather than help keep hospitals open.
Today April 4th marks the anniversary of the beginning of the 1977 Section 504 Sit-in. For 26 days, over 100 activists across different disabled communities staged a sit-in to demand the signing and enforcement of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Recently, 17 states filed lawsuits to deem Section 504 unconstitutional. The case is currently paused. Any efforts to dismantle Section 504 is a major threat to people living with disabilities. Section 504 is relevant now more than ever and deserves protection.
If you would like to learn more about the sit-in read the "Short History of the 504 Sit-in" written by a key organizer from the 1977 protest, Kitty Cone.

Inclusion advocates are petitioning U.S. schools with “midgets” as their mascot — of which there are at least five — to drop the derogatory slur from their school branding.
Rachel Wherley, Terra Jolé (@terrajole), and Shelby Holloway launched the Mascots Matter Campaign and started a https://t.co/ZM9wf2HIuH petition to retire the use of this deeply offensive term in schools.
To sign their petition, head to https://t.co/2e2vsyboky.

🧵The ballot measures last night say a few things about voters’ feelings about the economy.
Here is how they played out.
PAID SICK LEAVE
All three measures requiring employers to provide paid sick leave PASSED (AK, MO, NE)
All 3 states went to Trump

Watching Gen Z men veer right hits different for Millennials. We lived through Columbine, 9/11, the Iraq War, 2008 crash, 2016 election, covid, abortion bans, & now this. We watched institutions repeatedly fail us while older generations selfishly protected the status quo. 🧵1/
I wanna talk about the disabled angels: there's so many 'in heaven they will finally be free of their wheelchair' and 'they will be made whole again in heaven' narratives around disabled people, so to see visibly disabled angels means everything, thank you @neilhimself#GoodOmens
They're literally puzzled because she had spine problems and couldn't walk but still managed to be in normal community? They're puzzled because she had jewelry as a disabled person? I'm sure local natives could've told them disabled people had normal lives- but they NEVER LISTEN.
It is with great sadness we announce that Hale Zukas has passed away. Hale Zukas was one of the founders of the Center for Independent Living. He was a Rolling Quads member and worked on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Today a coalition of #Disability organizations led by @DREDF called on the state of #California to do more to make its #abortion portal accessible and relevant to #disabled Californians. Read more https://t.co/TjML5cAhGg
I'm begging healthcare workers to stop sharing stories about what a patient said or did, even if no identifying information is given. It's not just a matter of privacy but a matter of respect. I expect my doctor or nurse to not tweet about *my* experience just for likes.
