@Country0vrParty One negative review can wreak havoc on #Etsy shops. Feedback is important and helpful to consumers and shop owners alike, but it sucks to be punished so harshly for falling short of an impossible standard of perfection.

So I’m torn about @Etsy and their new Star Seller system. I meet their criteria when I’m operating, but I have a Christmas shop that isn’t open year round. Since this program looks at the last three months of data, I will not qualify for half of my selling season. #etsystarseller

@BloomCactusMktg I have a Christmas themed shop that I put on vacation mode in the off season. It will take three months of operation before I’ll earn the badge and then my season will be half finished or more. Otherwise I meet all criteria. Doesn’t seem ideal.

In 2020 I made the shift from a corporate job to working for myself, primarily on @Etsy. I thought I’d broken free of the binary survey shackles, but the #etsystarseller system’s 95% 5 star requirement has put me right back in that limiting position.

They’re not really wrong, but they don’t know the secret: in Corporate America surveys are 5 stars or zero, regardless of the scale presented to consumers, and surveys often determine individual success (including raises) or even whole store closures.
