@shskaercher I find that kids are really bad at assessing if they learned something. Given that he took time to send this to you, I’d say you did teach him something!
Brains are growing as my Algebra 2 students struggle through a group test. Want to know more? Here's a recent article I wrote about group assessments: https://t.co/TO5dkGDo1W

“Until we change the way we teach maths to emphasize learning and exploration, rather than performance, we’ll continue to produce students who describe their maths experience as a hamster wheel, or worse, a prison” @joboaler https://t.co/2pxgaM8lVp
Today we had an important visitor! Cathy Williams, who co-founded YouCubed with Jo Boaler, visited our freshman math classes to see how we’re teaching math differently and more effectively.

@TheMathProphet@iteachmathAll@kenoc7 I don’t want just any teaming experience, rather I want my students to be able to apply the math concepts of our course in realistic ways, which in my opinion often requires a group effort. I equally value their ability to know (individual test) and apply (group test).
I'm looking for research to support a manuscript I'm writing about challenging group tests in a high school math classroom. Anything related to importance of: collaboration, problem-solving, and continued learning even on summative assessments. #MTBoS#iteachmath#mathchat
@TheMathProphet@iteachmathAll@kenoc7 My students also take an individual test, after the group test, both weigh the same. If we're going to prepare our students and adjust to our changing world, they need regular, high-stakes practice with group work and realistic, unpredictable problem-solving.
@LesleySchooler I've also used the design thinking process for review (brainstorm and organize). This is really nice in a course like Algebra where everything is so interconnected. Here's one of our final boards after doing this last year.
@LesleySchooler This year I'm trying a passport system where students travel back to the chapters we've covered. So far they really like it. It gives them a lot of choice and they end up with a lot of great material for studying.
