We need to remember that technology does not decide to be biased, it simply takes our biases and translates them.

I think a lot of people believe that our society is no longer racist. These people fail to consider that racism is not always overt, it can be very subtle.

@jatenas #unboundeq I completely agree! As someone who is mixed race (black/latina-presenting), I often find myself feeling uncomfortable with sharing photos of myself alongside my professional commentary as I am very well aware that algorithms do not favour people that look like me.

@ken_bauer @bonstewart I find myself in a similar situation. Although I am Canadian born and raised, I get quite a few ads clearly targeting Trinidadians.

@bonstewart Thank you for sharing this, Dr. Stewart. it think it is extremely important for us as educators to be aware of our past, but actively work to make sure that history is not repeated. It is not enough to be "not racist" anymore, we all need to be "anti-racist" #unboundeq
