A fabulous conversation between some of north-east football's great personalities - funny to hear Cloughie tell Gibbo & Dougie to get out of their NE fishing villages & see the world - both had seen @NUFC win the #FairsCup in Budapest 6 years earlier!!!
#OnThisDay 1975: Brian Clough and Lawrie McMenemy joined sports writers John Gibson and Doug Weatherall to debate the eternal question; is the North East really a hotbed of football?
CELEBRATION DAY!!!
Hours after lifting the #FairsCup, Joe Harvey's magnificent Magpies returned to St James' Park to celebrate; here are some photos of that day 51 years ago! 'The Amazing Journey - How @NUFC Conquered Europe' is still available on Amazon & https://t.co/odvWcndU9w
WOW! WOW! WOW!
51 years since @NUFC recovered from 2-0 down behind the Iron Curtain vs reputedly Europe's best, @ujpestfc1885, winning 3-2 to secure Fairs Cup final glory!
Were you in #Hungary, or did you listen on the radio? Match highlights are here! https://t.co/zZlTfr2XUa
@DavidPallister@cultzeros We can't say enough good things about @cultzeros - excellent service! Hopefully more @NUFC fans will get a Cult Zeros t-shirt with their favourite player on soon :-)
🎉 Today is @NUFC long serving supporter, Alf Marshall’s 97th birthday.
He has witnessed 4 cup wins & watched the Magpies across 🔟 decades - his first game was against Blackburn in 1929 🙌
Still a season ticket holder, he hopes he can return to SJP soon.
All the best, Alf 😊

@NUFC's finest 90 mins? It's 51 years since the Magpies thrashed one of Europe's best teams, @ujpestfc1885, 3-0 in the 1969 #FairsCup final 1st leg. Is this the club's best achievement considering its importance, the opponent & the 60,000+ fans? What do you remember of that day?
@theinsidelefty@DavidOlusoga Agreed. Have you seen the series about the house almost in the shadow of St James' Park in Newcastle? No ref. to football but captivating all the same...
What. A. Night! 51 years ago one of @NUFC's most infamous games was played as they beat @RangersFC 2-0 amidst a riot by the away support at St James' Park to reach the 1969 Fairs Cup final. if you've got special memories of that day, pls share them! @FrankClarkFC@chriswaddle93
