Last night (27th), both @LeicsPeregrines juvenile females PBF & TCC were seen in the box @LeicsCathedral With the sighting of the male TDC at Cropston Res last Sunday, confirmation that all three have fledged successfully. ๐ Thank you to everyone who has helped this year. ๐
A fossil marine #diatom, Actinoptychus heliopelta. I imaged this yesterday on a scanning electron microscope. Size in real life 0.16mm across! The jolly colours were added in post to highlight various features, the initial image was greyscale. #scanningelectronmicroscopy#algae
Nottinghamshire new build looking rather attractive for Hylotrupes bajulus, the Old House Borer, should be New House Borer. @NLonghornRS@ColSocBI#Cerambycidae.

How to separate entomologists from botanists in the field:
Entomologists will usually be wearing a hat and protective gloves.
Botanists will always be wearing an apron/dungarees.
@neilmoths@DipteristsForum@RSPB_Strumpshaw Are you sure thatโs not female H. hybridus? The muddy orange markings on T4 suggest hybridus to me. Usually more silvery/creamy in trivittatus.
Iโd love to see more of this amazing planet. But I have zero right to do so if this means further degrading the world just so I can โexperienceโ it.
In truth VERY few of us need to fly.
@BrennanMartine One of my favourite flies! Common on my local site, and I already have lots of photos, but I canโt resist taking more. Especially of the females. Those gold stripes are gorgeous.
The latest Sciomyzid on the #Topsham garden list - Colobaea bifasciella; never seen it before but a really neat and distinctive little fly. @NHM_Diptera
Colydium elongatum found by torch on Oak today in Bengeo garden, former rarity that feeds on ambrosia beetles & their larvae. @hertsbna#Zopheridae#saproxylic
