The classic auscultatory findings in mitral valve prolapse (MVP) are a midsystolic click and a late systolic murmur. However, the timing of the click may vary within systole depending on changes in left ventricular dimensions, and multiple clicks may be present. These clicks are believed to result from the sudden tensing of the mitral valve apparatus as the leaflets prolapse into the left atrium during systole.
ECG Lead Vectors & Electrode Placement 😍
Frontal Plane (Limb Leads):
These leads assess electrical activity in the vertical (superior-inferior) plane.
Electrodes placed on:
- RA (Right arm)
- LA (Left arm)
- LF (Left leg (foot)
🔵 Standard leads: I, II, III
⚪Augmented leads: aVR, aVL, aVF
Together, they form Einthoven’s triangle.
Horizontal Plane (Precordial Leads):
These explore the heart in the anterior-posterior (transverse) plane.
Electrodes are placed as follows:
- V1: 4th intercostal space (ICS), right sternal border
- V2: 4th ICS, left sternal border
- V3: Midway between V2 & V4
- V4: 5th ICS, midclavicular line
- V5: Same level as V4, anterior axillary line
- V6: Same level as V4, midaxillary line
Each lead captures the heart's depolarization wavefront from a unique angle. Recognizing this helps localize:
🔹Myocardial infarction
🔹Bundle branch blocks
🔹Axis deviation
🔹Ventricular hypertrophy

Q: Why does VSD cause LVH but ASD doesn’t?
In ASD: LA → RA → RV → PA → lungs → PV → LA → RA.
The LV never sees the increased pulmonary venous return.
In VSD: LA → LV → RV → PA → lungs → PV → LA → LV.
The LV handles the increased volume load, leading to hypertrophy.

5 Myths About Fully Funded PhD Programs That You Need to Stop Believing
If you’re thinking about pursuing a PhD, you’re probably overwhelmed with advice and misinformation.
Let’s debunk five of the biggest myths about fully funded PhD programs so you can make informed decisions.
📌 Myth 1: “Fully Funded” Means You’ll Never Worry About Money
✔︎ Reality check: Fully funded doesn’t mean you’re rolling in cash.
→ It means tuition is waived, and you receive a stipend.
However ❌
→ Stipends vary drastically by program and location.
→ A $25,000 stipend might be livable in a small college town but barely enough in cities like Boston or New York.
→ for some programs you may still have to cover other expenses like health insurance, conference travel, or student fees.
💡 Tip: Before accepting an offer, ask about hidden costs and funding guarantees. Fully funded doesn’t mean “stress-free.”
📌 Myth 2: Fully Funded Programs Are Only for STEM Fields
→ Think humanities and social sciences never offer full funding?
Think again!
→ Many programs in public health, psychology, education, and even the arts offer full funding for competitive applicants.
💡 Tip: Do your homework. Fully funded opportunities exist beyond STEM; they’re just not as widely advertised.
📌 Myth 3: Only Ivy League Schools Offer Fully Funded PhDs
→ While the Ivies might dominate the conversation, many state schools and lesser-known universities offer competitive fully funded PhD programs.
In fact
→ Public universities like University of Michigan and University of North Carolina often offer more generous packages than their Ivy League counterparts.
→ Smaller institutions may prioritize funding fewer students over admitting large cohorts.
💡 Tip: Broaden your search. Sometimes the best funding comes from schools you’ve never heard of.
📌 Myth 4: Fully Funded Means No Strings Attached
→ Most funding schemes often come with conditions, such as:
✔︎ Teaching assistantships
You might be required to teach courses or assist professors, which can take up significant time.
✔︎Research assistantships
You might work on projects that align with your advisor’s interests, not yours.
While these roles build skills, they can feel like full-time jobs on top of your studies.
💡 Tip: Clarify expectations before you accept. How many hours will you need to teach or work, and how flexible are these commitments?
📌Myth 5: It’s Easy to Get Fully Funded Offers If You’re a Top Student
Even the best students get rejected from fully funded programs.
Why? Because funding decisions often depend on:
→ Program priorities
→ Competition: Fully funded programs admit fewer students. In some cases, only 10–20% of applicants are admitted with funding.
💡 Tip: Don’t take rejection personally. Apply widely and tailor your application to show how you align with the program’s goals.
