Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) shows us where prejudice can lead when it is normalised and encouraged.
Today, we remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust. We also commemorate the millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups, and in the more recent genocides recognised by the UK government, and the genocide in Darfur.
Prejudice has not ended and there is much to do to create a better future.

As announced by the Prime Minister last night, this government will:
Continue funding Lessons from Auschwitz
Teach Holocaust education in all schools
Ensure children hear the testimony of survivors
We will combat hatred and prejudice, and stand up to antisemitism.
It’s 7 days since those poor wee girls were attacked & killed at Southport & yet we aren’t even talking about them or their families or the others who were injured anymore. I find that genuinely astonishing.
“The beauty of this technology means that you can take people without having to leave their armchair or leave their classroom and learn about the Holocaust.”

“We have to be clear in saying there is no excuse for carrying a swastika on the streets of London. It is not a symbol of political protest. It is a symbol of genocide, racism and antisemitism.”
