#alexithymia "autistic participants had some knowledge of their feelings but often used a unique vocabulary to describe these = it is important to avoid normative expectations of understanding & use of mentalising words" @RCSLTLearn@WordAware https://t.co/S4oiV4TVws
Wow, very interesting talk from @salonikrishnan about myelin levels in the brain of those w/ DLD...less myelin and some structural differences but no functional differences #NAPLIC22#DevLangDis#SLCN
@michellestclair such an interesting presentation on #DevLangDis & social/emotional difficulties, and CYP w #DLD needing to gain control in an uncertain and unpredictable world... Something we don't talk about enough for DLD #NAPLIC22
Psychosocial difficulties in #DevLangDis can be so similar to those with Autism, but awareness is typically so much lower in #DLD -such high risks of misdiagnosis/ DLD under-representated #NAPLIC22 e.g. rigidity, rumination, exhaustion, lack of emotional understanding...
@Karmaviolet12 what an incredible parent you are. Amelia has done so amazingly against such adversity. What an inspiration you all are #NAPLIC22#DevLangDis
Such an important opener - behind every research project, case study, caseload is a child and family who are struggling with language difficulties. Thank you @Karmaviolet12#NAPLIC22#DevLangDis
So good to be back in the room among inspirational people of the #DevLangDis world @#NAPLIC22#SLCN Great to start the day hearing from a parent of a ch w/ #DLD
On #internationalliteracyday2021 we urge you to watch and share this video by Professor Maggie Snowling explaining the links between reading and spoken language.
Really enjoyed listening and learning from this @TheDLDProject_@AmandaFiner@pinchof_SaLT thank you! Particularly the focus on wider family and wellbeing importance. Well worth a listen https://t.co/sfpsAlaRom

#SpeechAndLanguage therapy has been vital for Eddie. 🙏
However, research shows that #SLT funding for #NHS isn’t enough to meet demand & accessing support was made harder due to the pandemic. #YourVoice4Theirs
This petition aims to improve that ➡️ https://t.co/yDhqBOfGvg
SaLT services were already under funded & under recognised, pre-Covid. This support has now been stripped back even further, making it impossible to give the desperately needed help. Please sign this petition to improve SaLT funding 💜💛 #DLD#SLCN#NAPLIC https://t.co/Loz4a6bFWT
All schools in 🇬🇧England with Reception class will be offered NELI early language training https://t.co/fAejEUWOQO NELI was originated by Gillian West, Maggie Snowling & Charles Hulme, with a team from St John's College Oxford. Work on a nursery version (NELI-N) is in progress.
I’d love to hear from SLTs/teachers regarding best practice for speech & language interventions in secondary schools. Would anyone be interested in joining a zoom meeting to share what is working well? #NAPLIC#DLD#SECONDARYSCHOOL#SLCN#SLT
@HelloLeeds Oh no, I hope your recovering ok Nicola. I agree though...I'm also nursing... a baby 😆 so have been able to attend when I otherwise wouldn't have! #NAPLIC21
Book language is more lexically rich and complex than daily spoken language - less reading with children limits the exposure of these words to children, limiting their rich language skills. The importance of reading with children!! #NAPLIC21@ReadOxford
I've been really happy to see some of my local schools engaging in the Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI) Prog. With such strong evidence, and supported via @EducEndowFoundn it's a win-win #NAPLIC21
Early language intervention is key to closing the gap between those w/ Lang. Difficulties & those without. BUT these intervention effects may fade out...ongoing support is crucial. thank you @lilacCourt#naplic21
