@Jaysosophy@nettermike Debunked? Well surely you can point me to where this was debunked? Maybe a nation or two that is successfully communist?
While you’re at it, please look up the definition of the word “incentive”, I think it may be very illuminating for you.
@PabloPicante6@GoJetsGo2015@Nic111392 Also, Cricket is much more concentrated to a particular part of the world (India/Pakistan).
Most 1st world countries (the countries that actually matter) much prefer basketball.
(AI map attached, but it gets the point across)
@PabloPicante6@GoJetsGo2015@Nic111392 Going strictly by “quantity of fans globally”, it’s pretty damn close (only ~8% difference). Then when considering world wide cultural impact, I would argue basketball has the edge (Jordan & LeBron are much more famous than the two most famous Cricketers, for example)
@PaulaYScanlan Tell them you are happy to serve because you know that white people have been proven to be the least biased jury members. Then show them these two charts. No way they pick you after that.
Christopher Hitchens: ”In 1786, when the United States was barely a country, it was having its sailors taken as slaves by the Barbary states, the states of the Ottoman Empire and North Africa. Tripoli, shores of Tripoli. Ships stopped, its crews carried off into slavery. We estimate 1.5 million European and American slaves taken between 1750 and 1815.
Jefferson and Adams went to their ambassador in London and said, why do you do this to us? The United States has never had a quarrel with the Muslim world of any kind. We weren't in the crusades. We weren't at war with Spain. Why do you do this to our people and our ships? Why do you plunder and enslave our people? The ambassador said very plainly, Mr. Abdul Rahman said, because the Quran gives us permission to do so, because you are infidels, and that's our answer. Jefferson said, well, in that case, I will send a navy which will crush your state, which he did.
Islamic fundamentalism is not created by American democracy. It's a lie to say so. It's a masochistic lie, and it excuses those who are the real criminals, and blames us for the attacks made upon us.”
@100001b@HoodiWaymo The way that the NBA has monopolized the world’s best talent is moot. 75% of the NBA players are American. The best Basketball players in the world all play in the NBA. Thus, Basketball is an American dominated sport, even if there is a handful of foreign unicorns at the top.
@GoJetsGo2015@Nic111392 I assume he meant team sports. In which case basketball is no lower than third after soccer and maybe cricket.
And even when not filtering for only team sports, basketball probably isn’t lower than 5th or so. So it’s not exactly “not even close to being true”
@ClaireMPLS Shit I’ll loan you 20k right now if you can turn that into a Billion Dollar buisness within two decades. I only ask for a measly 1,000x return within 10 years. Deal?
@100001b@HoodiWaymo Whereas in Soccer, the top 100 players in the world are typically spread across 5+ leagues.
So yes, even though many of the top 10 Basketball players on the planet are not American, it is still very much an American dominated sport.
@100001b@HoodiWaymo With the exception of maybe the NPB (🇯🇵⚾️), no other league around the world in either Baseball, Hockey or Basketball are there many athletes in their prime not choosing to play in the “American” pro leagues. Thus making the “American League” the default for the worlds best.
