America’s Power has taken the Ratepayer Protection Pledge. Households should not be forced to bear the electricity costs of the data center boom.
One solution is already on the grid: America’s coal fleet operated at nearly 50% capacity last year, compared with 70% in the past. It can generate more electricity without the cost and delay of building new plants and infrastructure.
FERC and grid operators should incentivize data centers to source electricity from existing coal plants.

“The Peyton Manning of coal.”🏈@SecretaryWright recognizes America’s Power President and CEO Michelle Bloodworth for leading the National Coal Council's Electricity Subcommittee and delivering its report on maximizing the coal fleet.
On day one, @POTUS ended the war on beautiful, clean coal.
Today, @ENERGY convened the National Coal Council and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with @USDOL to strengthen opportunities for the next generation of American miners.
Today, the National Coal Council submitted to @SecretaryWright a new report on Maximizing the Value of the U.S. Coal Fleet. The report provides recommendations to improve the reliability of the U.S. electricity supply. America’s Power is pleased to chair the group of experts that prepared this report.

PJM’s latest capacity auction is a warning sign.
Demand is outpacing dependable supply. @pjminterconnect was unable to meet its reliability requirement for the second year in a row, while roughly 10 GW of coal-fueled generation is scheduled to retire within five years.

As we approach peak electricity demand in the 13-state Mid-Atlantic region, at 7am this morning less than six percent of electricity generation was coming from renewables.
Over 91 percent of generation is coming from gas, nuclear and coal—keeping our air conditioners blasting.
America will never come remotely close to running out of hydrocarbons.
@SecretaryWright: "90% of the oil and gas and coal that were underground 500 years ago will be underground a million years from now."https://t.co/bsAVynwll1
.@SenatorKimWard is right: Pennsylvania ratepayers should not be punished for producing the reliable baseload power the broader PJM grid depends on. Affordable, reliable electricity starts with preserving the coal fleet and the dispatchable generation that keeps the grid running.
Happy birthday, President @realDonaldTrump. No one has done more to defend America’s coal fleet and the dispatchable, fuel secure power it provides. Thank you for putting grid reliability and energy security first!
The new OMS-MISO survey is clear: the grid needs 11+ GW of new capacity every year just to meet rising demand. With 87 GW of projects stalled and nearly 20 GW of coal retirements looming, we can't keep subtracting from the generation we already have — existing coal uses infrastructure already in place, avoiding the need for costly new transmission.

Thanks to President Trump ending the war on coal, DOE is strengthening American coal power.
@ENERGY’s actions are protecting 45 coal plants and 42 coal mines, securing over 40 GW of power, supporting more than 12,500 American jobs, and advancing a large-scale coal terminal.
No President has prioritized CLEAN, BEAUTIFUL COAL like President Trump. His actions today take historic steps to revitalizing the American coal industry. ⛏️🇺🇸
The Trump Administration just announced $700M to support 13 existing coal plants + 2 new units under the Defense Production Act.
"Coal plants provide around-the-clock baseload power with on-site fuel storage, giving military installations and critical industries a level of resilience that is difficult to replicate." - Michelle Bloodworth, President and CEO of America's Power
We applaud the Trump Administration for continuing to recognize that energy security = national security.

Spent time yesterday at a family-run Beautiful Clean Coal mine that has supported local jobs for decades while delivering reliable, affordable, secure energy to the community.
These hardworking Americans are the backbone of @POTUS’ American Energy Dominance Agenda. 🇺🇸
“We appreciate EPA’s efforts to rescind one-size-fits-all ELG requirements that are unnecessarily prescriptive. This represents another step to help preserve the nation’s coal fleet, which is essential to providing affordable and reliable electricity, especially at a time when electricity demand is exploding. We look forward to working with EPA to ensure the proposal is workable. At the same time, we urge EPA to repeal the 2024 ELG Rule because it is a significant threat to the nation’s coal fleet.”

America’s Power visited Tunnel Ridge Mine and AEP’s Amos Power Plant, seeing firsthand how coal moves from production to powering the grid.
Thanks to Alliance Resource Partners & AEP for hosting, and to FERC Chairman Laura Swett, FERC Commissioner Lindsay See & WV PSC Chair Charlotte Lane for joining.
We commend FERC’s leadership for engaging on the ground to better understand the coal supply chain. Reliable energy depends on resources like coal.
The Biden EPA tried to strangulate beautiful, clean coal out of existence, and we are urgently reversing that damage. At the Trump EPA, unlike certain Democrat politicians, we will NEVER tell coal miners they need to just learn to code.
Michelle Bloodworth in @WashTimes:
“The Iran conflict is demonstrating one of our nation’s major strengths: our vast domestic energy resources which include more coal than any other country on earth.”

.@GovernorShapiro just extended the life of two vital coal plants in Pennsylvania – The Keystone and Conemaugh Generating Stations.
These facilities provide 3,400+ MW of reliable, fuel-secure power across the 13-state @pjminterconnect grid.
America’s Power applauds the Trump Administration and Gov. Shapiro for recognizing the need to keep fuel-secure generation online and for promoting key environmental upgrades.
