@JFClaudeMSM Oh for sure. I'm safer at home too but wouldn't be if I brought lab work home where the infrastructure and health and safety stations don't exist. At work I definitely want to know the fastest exit routes (also great for getting out quick at the end of the day ;) )
@JFClaudeMSM Good convo to have though. I know a lot of people are annoyed by them, me too sometimes to be honest, but so important to be safe and our brains do stupid things when in panic mode sometimes. :)
@JFClaudeMSM Speaking as someone who works in labs, fire & emergency drills are so important.Things can go wrong very fast, & practicing helps train your brain not to do something stupid during an emergency when it's in panic mode & can't think straight. I'm ok being paid to practice safety
@Scorpio_Karen18@JFClaudeMSM Or, you know, we could revitalize the downtown core in a more lasting way. Live-work-play, walkable neighborhoods. Downtown has always been a ghost town after 6pm. Nobody LIVES there. Businesses only operate for part of the day and close by 5 generally.
@smwgilbert Or we could redesign our downtown to be more vibrant and include live, work and play... We could stop relying on a single "business" supporting an area. We could stop asking GOC to RTO and then the demand on transit would be reduced... Etc etc...
@smwgilbert So tired of transit only being built for commuting. Transit needs to meet the needs of other members of society, not just the 9-5 commuters... Just like neighbourhoods need to be built with a mix of live-work-play so we wouldn't be in this situation
@JFClaudeMSM Let's all race the bottom shall we?
Better yet, let the fed gov set a higher bar for employee working conditions, benefits, etc &Canadians push for companies to meet those standards. Let's villainize the companies making $$$$ that treat employees like expendable resources instead
@JFClaudeMSM Love the timing of this announcement... Overlapping with mental health week and SGBA plus awareness week... And it RTO as it stands counters both.
@smwgilbert So we paid for trains so that we can keep using buses? This is ridiculous. How do we keep using a system of procurement that favours lowest bid vs proven record? (Especially when lowest bids are allowed to add costs on indefinitely?)... Ugh
@JFClaudeMSM Would like to see the data for caregivers vs non caregivers and even better broken down by caring for elderly family member vs young kids (under 5) and with kids 5-10 yrs. The lack of acknowledgement of the equity created with flex work astonishes me as a parent of young kids.
@RoboRobbins Oh and up/down split duplexes that are bungalows (everything on one floor) with space for a lift to be installed if needed so people can better age in place with housing that isn't multiple stories of stairs to get everywhere.
@RoboRobbins Also better housing being built. By that I mean enough of all the condo buildings with just one and two bedroom units. How about some actual family condos? Co-op housing? 3,4&5 bedroom condos. With atria with playground and a daycare in the building... Families need more options
@RoboRobbins Yup, don't understand this at all. Once this one is signed it will likely expire again in a few months. Why can't they negotiate an agreement for 5 years this one time and have a deadline for the next negotiations to be completed before that one expires so we reset the windows?
@JFClaudeMSM Oh for sure. But if we really want to fight that the Gov needs to change their tax laws significantly. And if they did the issue of the funds for paying these changes would be available. I'd love to see universal income funded by taxing big business and the 1% more equitably.
@JFClaudeMSM Sorry, I know it's not a raise in that sense. I just mean that at the highest levels the salaries are generally sufficient to still live well, pay rent, buy food, so maybe they don't need quite the same percent over time as those at lower levels.
@JFClaudeMSM Sounds familiar... The GoC seems to go on and on about supporting employee wellness, diversity, inclusion, etc. And then design a RTO policy that destroys all of those things....
