"Persepolis" was the first graphic novel I ever bought. It was also my gateway to learning more about Iran and its history, just as it was for millions of others in the West. I don't think the debt owed by the world to Marjane Satrapi can be quantified.

Declaring June as “Nuclear Family Month” while defunding schools, granting tax breaks to retired people, canceling Dolly Parton’s reading program, and turning down federal grants to feed kids during the summer is the perfect example of his platform.
Performative and ineffective
We hope you know how glad we are that you’re here. 🌈✨
Pride Month is a time when people across the globe are reminded that who they are is not shameful, broken, or wrong. They will be reminded that there are people who care deeply about them and want to see them thrive fully as themselves. Pride is an intentional moment to give people the hope to keep moving forward, and we’ll never miss an opportunity to express and celebrate that.
Pride is more than visibility. It’s more than just a celebration. It’s a refusal to be written out.

An appropriate birthday present on my uncle's birthday today. A federal judge ruled that President Trump and the Kennedy Center Board acted unlawfully in renaming the Kennedy Center. The judge held that only Congress can change the Center's name and blocked the planned two-year closure. I know they'll probably appeal and the story isn't over, but for today let’s celebrate a great birthday gift.
Sending Americans who are exposed to or infected with Ebola to Kenya (instead of bringing them home) is an extraordinarily bad idea and it will backfire
On the surface -- it seems smart. Why not send people elsewhere instead of bringing them home
For three reasons actually

Here in Michigan,
we protected every Michigander’s right to control their body
we protected every Michigander’s right to wear their natural hair
we protected every Michigander’s right to be who they are and love who they love
and we’re going to keep fighting to keep it that way.
Access to a firearm triples suicide risk. Not doubles. Triples. That is not rhetoric. That is the 2026 research synthesis. Secure storage is not a political statement. It is arithmetic. Lock it up. Separate the ammo. https://t.co/WuLkaq5HI9
COMMENTARY: Let’s say it plainly: There has never been a president as corrupt as Donald Trump.
There is no close second in our history.

87% of firearm suicide victims are men. Men die by firearm suicide nearly 7 times the rate of women. The story we tell about who is at risk is not the story the data tells. Check on your fathers. Your brothers. Your sons. https://t.co/WuLkaq6fxH
If a person you love is struggling, ask them directly: are you thinking about ending your life. The research is clear. Asking does not put the idea there. Asking opens the door for them to walk through it. Silence has never saved anyone.
When someone tells you that segregation was “a long time ago”
remember that Ruby Bridges, the first black child to attend an all-white elementary school is still alive and well.
