My heartfelt gratitude to West Bengal Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari, State President Shri Samik Bhattacharya, State General Secretary (Organisation) Shri Amitava Chakraborty, former State President and Union Minister of State Dr Sukanta Majumdar, the entire state leadership and our karyakartas for their unwavering support, affection and trust throughout my tenure as Sah Prabhari of West Bengal.
The last six years have been among the most challenging, intense and fulfilling years of my public life. Together, we worked through difficult circumstances and achieved what once seemed impossible: the BJP forming its first government in the state.
But beyond the organisation and politics, Bengal became deeply personal to me. I have built countless memories, friendships and relationships here that I will always cherish. Whatever I do in the future, Bengal will always remain precious to me.
I wish Shri Sunil Bansal and the newly appointed Sah Prabharis continued success as they take forward the organisation’s work in Bengal.
I look forward to returning to Bengal in the coming months, especially during Durga Puja, to relive some of the wonderful memories of a truly memorable chapter of my life.
Thank you, West Bengal, for everything. 🙏🪷

Thank you, Devendra ji, for the warm welcome and your generous words.
Maharashtra is a very special state for me. Before entering public life, it was here that I built an important part of my professional journey as a banker, achieving some of my most meaningful professional accomplishments and witnessing several important personal milestones along the way.
I am honoured to now have the opportunity to serve the BJP in Maharashtra in a different capacity. I look forward to working closely with you, the entire state leadership and our karyakartas to further strengthen the organisation and contribute to the party’s continued growth in the state.
I am looking forward to this new responsibility. 🙏🪷

🔰UPI Continues to Remain Free for Peer to Peer Transactions and 96% of Merchant Transactions
▪The new UPI framework introduced has no impact on any person to person transactions
▪️UPI will continue to remain completely free for all person-to-person transactions, irrespective of the amount transferred
▪️Payments to merchants up to ₹2,000, along with transactions covered under the zero-MDR framework for small merchants, will also remain free
▪️Consequently, approximately 96% of all P2M transactions will remain unaffected. MDR will apply only to specified merchant transactions above ₹2,000
▪️It is clarified that MDR is neither a tax nor a charge collected by the Government or NPCI. It is distributed among payment ecosystem participants, including banks and payment application providers, to support the operation and continued expansion of the UPI ecosystem
▪️Introduced under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, following detailed deliberations by the UPI Steering Committee, the framework seeks to ensure the long-term sustainability of UPI while protecting individuals and small merchants from additional charges

Homage to noted Bengali writer, the versatile Saratchandra Chattopadhyay on his 150th birth anniversary.
His works, translated into every Indian language and several foreign languages, are remembered for their accurate depiction of 19th century India, especially Bengali society in rural areas. Equally noteworthy was his commitment to social reform, women’s rights and nationalism.
I call upon more youngsters to read his writings in the times to come.

India is projected to see the strongest rise in GDP per capita (PPP) among major BRICS and G7 economies between 2020 and 2031, surging by over 171%. Well ahead of China, the US and others.

Political and ideological differences are an inseparable part of politics. But when it comes to India and the national interest, there should be no room for personal animosity or partisan discord.
It is therefore deeply distressing that three Congress Chief Ministers invited to the BRICS leaders’ dinner chose not to attend.
The BRICS Summit was not a BJP event, nor a political platform. It was an international summit hosted by India, representing the Republic of India and its interests before the world.
Opposing PM Modi is one thing. But has the Congress now reached a point where, in opposing Modi, it ends up opposing India’s national interests and diplomatic engagements as well?
Politics can wait. India comes first.
Declining an invitation to an international engagement of this stature for partisan reasons is not just unfortunate, it is deeply disappointing and shameful.
The “missing GDP” story is getting harder to sustain.
As economist Soumya Kanti Ghosh points out, India’s GDP data are not telling a story of “missing growth” but of better measurement, fewer revisions and stronger underlying economic momentum.
The contrast is striking:
• In the earlier GDP series, 56 quarters saw 110 upward and 83 downward revisions.
• In the latest 14 quarters, there have been just 24 upward and 22 downward revisions.
• The latest revision actually increased real GDP by ₹372 trillion, while nominal GDP was revised down by ₹42 trillion.
• Manufacturing, trade, transport, finance, real estate and business services now have far better data coverage, capturing a much larger part of the formalising economy.
And the real economy is reinforcing the statistical picture: investment, credit, consumption, private-sector profits and manufacturing activity remain strong.
The “missing GDP” narrative is increasingly looking like an attempt to explain away what the data actually show: India’s economy is growing strongly, while its statistical system is getting better at measuring it.
India’s fourth BRICS Chairship has delivered far more than another summit. It has pushed BRICS towards practical cooperation, institutional continuity and a stronger voice for the Global South.
In its 20th year, the expanded BRICS now brings together 11 countries representing nearly 50% of the world’s population, 40% of global GDP and 26% of global trade. India’s 2026 Chairship gave this expanded grouping a distinctly action-oriented agenda, with more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements across nearly 30 Indian cities.
The key outcomes include:
• BRICS Startup Innovation Fund and Incubator Network to connect startups, incubators and investors across member countries.
• BRICS MSME Cooperation Portal and a framework for MSME finance and internationalisation.
• Global Value Chains Action Plan 2026–30 to build more resilient and diversified supply chains.
• Logistics Supply-Chain Cooperation Framework and cooperation on customs to facilitate faster, cheaper and more secure trade.
• Smart Grids and Energy Storage cooperation and a BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence.
• BRICS Urban Mobility Hub and principles for climate-resilient urban infrastructure.
• Digital agriculture, agro-ecology and agricultural-input cooperation, including the BRICS AGRIN framework.
• BRICS CONNECT for Skilling, focused on employability, women’s workforce participation, social security and digital public infrastructure.
• Greater cooperation on mental health, traditional medicine, healthy lifestyles and traditional knowledge.
• A BRICS Science and Research Repository and institutionalised cooperation in sport technology.
India also put global governance reform firmly on the BRICS agenda. The New Delhi Declaration backed reform of the UN Security Council to give the Global South a stronger voice, while India proposed a roadmap for reform centred on representation, responsiveness and rule-making. The agenda explicitly extends to AI, cyberspace, outer space, biotechnology and critical technologies, areas where the Global South cannot remain merely a rule-taker.
Perhaps the most important institutional proposal is a BRICS Continuity and Implementation Mechanism, using the Troika and a digital repository to track decisions, timelines and implementation. That addresses one of the perennial weaknesses of multilateral groupings: declarations without delivery.
This is the real achievement of India’s BRICS Chairship: not just expanding the grouping, but making it more useful. Not merely issuing declarations, but creating mechanisms for trade, technology, startups, skills, infrastructure, energy and development.
India has used its Chairship to turn BRICS from a larger grouping into a more consequential platform for the Global South and a more practical instrument of global cooperation.
The “80% of Indians are non-vegetarian” claim needs some context.
NFHS-5 found that 83.4% of men and 70.6% of women aged 15–49 reported eating fish, chicken or meat daily, weekly or occasionally. But this is a frequency category, not a measure of whether meat constitutes a substantial part of someone’s diet. More importantly, NFHS-5 separately reports a much lower weekly consumption at 57.3% for men and 45.1% for women. The survey also shows that almost everyone consumes pulses/beans, fruits and green leafy vegetables, while 96.2% of men and 94.2% of women consume milk or curd daily, weekly or occasionally. So “80% non-vegetarian” certainly does not mean that 80% of Indians follow predominantly meat-based diets.
India’s culinary civilisation has never been defined by meat alone. Rice, wheat, millets, pulses, lentils, vegetables, fruits, milk, curd, ghee, oils, spices and seasonal produce form an enormous part of our food traditions. Meat and fish are equally part of India’s culinary diversity, but their place varies enormously by region, community, culture, geography and occasion.
So using a survey category to argue that vegetarian food does not represent “authentic India” is a category error. India can have a large non-vegetarian population and still have a culinary culture deeply shaped by plant-based staples.
Gandhiji understood this distinction. Addressing the London Vegetarian Society on 20 November 1931, he said: “I belong to a country which is predominantly vegetarian by habit or necessity.” He also explained: “The basis of my vegetarianism is not physical, but moral.”
The point is not to pit vegetarian food against non-vegetarian food. India is too diverse for either to have a monopoly on authenticity. A vegetarian spread can be every bit as Indian, indigenous and representative of our culinary civilisation as a non-vegetarian one.
