If you want to know whether you're going to pass Step 1, the only thing I would trust is NBMEs. Third party self assessments are not written by NBME writers and may not be reliable. Aim for >70% on most NBMEs. Take as many as you can. These questions are written by the same people who write your actual Step questions.

Start studying physiology early when you have time to take notes, watch (and rewatch) videos, and grind through practice questions until the concepts make sense. Each major branch of physio has its own set of tricky topics that can’t be rushed or crammed. Build a strong foundation now, and when you revisit these ideas later, they’ll come back fast.

Here are a few topics worth a slow, focused approach:

Cardiac: preload vs afterload, Starling curves, Wiggers diagram

Pulmonary: V/Q mismatch, dead space, lung compliance

Renal: filtered load, filtration fraction, sodium balance

Master these now while you’re not under pressure. Future you will thank you.
