Concerning excessive noise resulting from use of amplification on streets of Edinburgh's residential heritage-site, legislation, regulation and enforcement.
Been getting supportive words about buskers using a ridiculous level of amplification outside #Edinburgh Old Town residential buildings for months, but police do nothing and said they have stretched resources.
Today, the mask dropped... 1/4
Busking #LawCheckBeforeSoundCheck
- Play only 9am - 9pm
- Consider residents & businesses
- Move to another pitch at least 50m away after 1 hour
- Stop busking if anyone complains
- Failing to comply = Fine of up to £500

Stricter busking rules planned after crowds 'whipped up' against officers
"...officers are met by unlicensed buskers who either refuse to engage or whip up the crowd against them."

“Amplified sound in public spaces can be extremely annoying, very distracting and detrimental to normal working and domestic life” Cllr Neil Ross @HalOsler 1/

"...there is a perception you can "do whatever you like" with regards to busking in #Edinburgh "because nothing ever happens". " 🎯

As Transport & Environment don't seem to care one iota about the impact or redeveloping street-space without adequate regulation and management, does Culture & Communities?

Who's #Edinburgh for? Despite promises, CEC has done absolutely nothing to protect amenity of people living + working in the Old Town. Now, here is a picture showing them spread the exact same dysfunction with redevelopment of George Street in New Town.

Enduring what the (ex-)residents beside the High Street have over the past decade, I'm sure George Street residents are going to love the acoustic transformation of their homes into properties where day-to-day life is constantly disrupted... 4th picture.

@ladyhms12@PLACEEdinburgh And what are the residents living there and folk working in offices next to and across from Assembly Rooms supposed to do? 🤔Edinburgh is not a festival!

Brand new images of how a transformed George Street could look are now live - take a look! The latest design stage has been reached in the project to create a people-friendly area, where people can walk, cycle, shop and spend time. Find out more 👉 https://t.co/H2SK3OaGwg
@LewisGFraser@PLACEEdinburgh With respect to the disruption caused by noise, slow moving traffic and parked cars are far better than amplified buskers! Removing or reducing traffic should not correspond to the contempt for the people living and working in adjacent buildings, as it did on the High Street.
