@SamSamwhite @Todd66251244 @IamButterflySue@jk_rowling So you know what it’s like to be a disabled woman do you? An expert on what that journey looks like? What about a Black woman? A Muslim woman? A woman who can + can’t give birth? We all have different journeys so you can’t possibly say you know what every other woman’s looks like
@JohnMcCloy@jk_rowling And not be able to receive proper healthcare if they’re raped, or find themselves carrying a pregnancy that’s going to kill them? Do your girls feel safer now they know so many around them will happy put a convicted sexual abuser in the top spot? What a great reward that all is.
@Shilisad1@KarSugrue@Sleborah Hmm yes let’s think really hard about the difference between sending a young child in to a room full of naked men entirely alone + unprotected, and letting a transwoman (who is overwhelmingly more likely to be at harm than do harm) in to a room where mothers are supervising kids
@Artemisfornow You do realise what she is saying is just that if you were looking at where to give money to a resource, say free school meals, then it makes sense to give it to the families who can’t afford it and help lift out of poverty, and not to millionaires who can. That’s not communism
@MikScarlet I’m even more worried about the next renewal though where I’m concerned @Motability aren’t going to have given any thought to those of us who live in high rises and won’t have access to charging points and there will only really be full electrics and few 7 seaters available.
@MikScarlet I had a nightmare finding one too because I put my rigid chair in the boot unfolded, and all the MPVs have become SUVs with less boot space and there were also barely any 7 seaters on the market. Eventually I did find one in next list because Motability gave me a lease extension
@RicCassell@MikScarlet So this doesn’t help the situation of not wanting a WAV - but if it came to it I was told by someone at the adaptations company I think that the test for a grant for a wav where you transfer inside of is being in employment or education, not a means test like other options.
@AdamLenson Utterly disgraceful, not only the overt antisemitism but the fact no one spoke out against it or at least comforted you if they feared unsafe escalation. Don’t know if you know but you can get a badge from TFL to alert people to invisible needs for a seat https://t.co/9g4g2Te28Y
@alexandra_DBmed @DrHannahBB this seems like something you’d be interested in. If someone else hasn’t already tagged you because it feels likely. To draw attention to and hopefully make some people feel ashamed! Staggering this is the same institution responsible for caring for disabled patients!
@Graceical @BlondeHistorian Maybe I just give people too much credit but I also think often it’s that people are just utterly oblivious. Or I’ll see people do the ‘half side step’ seeming to just not remotely understand that a wheelchair does not bloody side step and they need to do the full step their end!
@annao_tree@Chimpinalls@QueerlyAutistic And when things get really overwhelming it feels like I’m holding on to so many helium balloons they keep floating off because I can’t hold them all and I never have time to stop and tie them down because I’m so frantically jumping around not letting the helium balloons fly off
@annao_tree@Chimpinalls@QueerlyAutistic For how I actually experience it: like I have 6 trains always speeding on tracks, I’ve got an important job on each train so have to keep jumping between each one but as soon as I get to one another one seems more urgent so I have to jump over there. And they all just keep going
@GleaningSage @Jaominohn @BlondeHistorian@GuideDogAva Yeah I really hope whoever the one friend who follows sees this and steps up as an ally to explain why/how the lib made it an unwelcoming and discriminatory space. It won’t help Amy as she’s no longer comfortable to go there but maybe they will change things for the next person
@damonrose@BlondeHistorian@GuideDogAva I'm confused how we read the same story and you came to this conclusion! @BlondeHistorian doesn’t need to communicate differently - the library staff acted inappropriately to a legitimate complaint. They should be the focus of change needed. So sorry this happened to you Amy.
@KathyStanding @BlindGirlVlogs Such a good point. EVERYONE needs a break for everything now and then - it’s why we have 5.6w pro rata minimum statuatory days of holiday from a job. We only call it ‘respite’ when talking about the ‘burden’ of disabled people.
@ianmukker @BlindGirlVlogs This explains it with more characters! https://t.co/OMyxC36lMg there’s also a proposed updated social model of impairment too https://t.co/Y4AEI0dWG7
@ianmukker @BlindGirlVlogs Of course how you identify is up to you. But the things you are talking about are ‘impairments’ or ‘conditions. The word ‘disabled’ denotes that we are disabled by our environment + social attitudes - it’s not about us it’s about the world that disables us by not including us 1/2
