Humanitarian needs are at record levels, yet aid cuts are forcing women's organizations to scale back lifesaving support.
New @UN_Women report Beyond the Breaking Point: 84% of women's organizations report rising demand, while nearly 9 in 10 can no longer meet existing needs.

💬 "Even strong people break, because war spares no one," says Olha Bilous, coordinator of the support space for women from the veteran community and a veteran herself.
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has placed a heavy burden on women – especially those who have lost loved ones, or whose husbands are on the frontline, in captivity, or missing.
In Zaporizhzhia, NGO Ukrprostir with the support of @wphfund and UN Women Ukraine created a space where women from the veteran community can recover, find support and reconnect with others. Retreats, art therapy, equine therapy, Swedish circles — every step here is a step towards oneself.

📌 UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia @unwomeneca statement:
UN Women condemns in the strongest terms the recent wave of attacks across Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.
Since the onset of Russia's full-scale war, the disproportionate toll of the war on women and girls has only deepened.
Between January and May of this year, civilian casualties among women and girls increased by an estimated 34% compared to the same period in 2025.
These are not just numbers; they are a stark reminder of the urgent need for gender-responsive humanitarian support and protection.

"A pension is 3,000 hryvnias. It is impossible to receive treatment and live on this money."
Olena uses a wheelchair and cannot leave her home on her own. For her, as for many women with disabilities and older women in Kharkiv, even going to a pharmacy or shop is a serious challenge. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has made these difficulties even greater.
NGO "Volunteer-68" brings support directly to people's homes, delivering food, hygiene items and other essential supplies.
This video shows how NGO "Volunteer-68", with support from UN Women and @wphfund, helps Olena and other women in Kharkiv, and why this work matters.
“We don’t hire women for mine action.” That’s what Ryta Mazankova was once told. Her response was simple: “Then I’ll be the first.”
Today, nearly 10 years later, Ryta leads a humanitarian mine action team and has dedicated her career to making land safe again.
Watch Ryta’s story—a woman who, by leading through example, is challenging gender stereotypes in traditionally male-dominated professions.

Today, NGO "Numo, Sestry!" held a solidarity action to amplify the voices of civilian women detained by the Russian Federation. For those who have spent years in captivity, it is critically important to know that they have not been forgotten and that efforts to secure their release continue.
💬 "Release of Ukrainian women prisoners of war must become an unconditional priority of state policy. Their safe return is not only a humanitarian issue, but also a matter of national dignity and the state’s responsibility toward its citizens," Liudmyla Huseinova, head of NGO "Numo, Sestry!".
Sustained public attention is essential. Every mention, every publication, and every act of solidarity helps raise awareness of the situation of civilian women in captivity, supports efforts to document human rights violations, and contributes to justice and accountability.
🗣️ Their voices must be heard, and their rights must be protected.

🇪🇺🇺🇦 As Ukraine moves closer to the EU, gender equality must be embedded across all policy areas, including agriculture and rural development.
At a UN Women workshop, government officials, civil society representatives, and experts developed recommendations to advance gender-responsive rural policies and strengthen rural women’s participation, access to resources, and leadership🌾
The outcomes will inform a practical guide on gender mainstreaming in Ukraine’s EU accession process.

💬 "It is very important to seek support and inspiration, and to keep living. To live, no matter what," says Olha Kremenchutska, an internally displaced woman and We-LEAD project participant in Dnipro.
In Dnipro, a city shelled almost every day, NGO "Stay on Top" runs the We-LEAD project for internally displaced women, women with disabilities, survivors of gender-based violence and women living near the frontline.

📌 Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, UN Women Ukraine stands in solidarity with all survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (#CRSV) in #Ukraine and around the world. As Russia’s full-scale invasion continues, survivors of conflict-related sexual violence must remain at the center of recovery and response efforts. They must be heard, represented, and supported.
UN Women in Ukraine partners with survivor networks, women-led organizations, government institutions, UN agencies and international partners to ensure survivors’ rights, needs and priorities remain at the heart of decision-making, recovery and development efforts.

The Russian Armed Forces launched another large-scale attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region on 24 May, killing two women and injuring more than 80 people. Many lost their homes, businesses, and livelihoods, while cultural and historical sites were also seriously damaged.
January–April 2026 were deadlier for women and girls than the same period in 2023–2025. In 2025, 27% more women were killed than in 2024.
We share the pain of those who lost their loved ones and wish a full recovery to everyone injured in these horrific attacks. Civilians and civilian infrastructure are protected under international humanitarian law and must never be targeted. #ForAllWomenAndGirls
