For those still here, my updates will only be @anacrgomes.bsky.social from now on (or @AnaC_RGomes in mastodon), and my account here will be removed in due time. hope to keep following you all in better alternative places :)
Our results indicate plastic and cautious investment in costly coloration by females, likely to preserve body condition. In males, absence of senescence in colour indicate an attempt to always express high ornamentation, possibly due to stronger sexual selection. (5/5)
📢New paper alert!📢 We found stronger senescence and environmental effects on female colour than on males in a mutually ornamented bird, the common waxbill. with S Guerra, @RomerodiazC, P Silva, @trigo_st, and @mostlywaxbills at @BehavEcol (1/5)

Colour ornamentation, especially in females, also increased when moving from the wild to the mesocosm, likely due to environmental effects. Fine-scale monitoring of aditional common waxbills in bird cages suggested that bill and plumage redness peak in the breeding season. (4/5)
We are recruiting a #PhD student to work on collective behaviour in real and artificial systems. October 2025 start. Working with @SHOALgroup, @rjpheathcote @wl_allen, @joefresna, @MarinaVPap. Advert probably not out until new year now, but keep your 👀 🍌
Excited (& a bit terrified) to officially share our #R#package with the world 🤩 swaRmverse provides a pipeline to analyze #collective#motion#data, promoting more comparative work across the Swarm-Verse 🐐🦬🐦🐒🐟 🦖🐑🕸️

Really happy after these days in Melbourne and presenting my work @ISBE2024 huge congratulations to the organisation for such an amazing conference! Thank you to all that came to check my work and to ISBE for the travel grant that allowed me to be here :)
Very happy to share our new paper in @PNASNews on how #GriffonVultures change their movement and social behaviour with age: https://t.co/bya0wGHazv
It seems that old griffons are much like old humans: they like to stay at home, are set in their routines and are a bit antisocial.

Finally, I also want to highlight the amazing initiative by @Publico , @PublicoAzul , @CIBIO_InBIO , for allowing non scientific public to understand what researchers are and are made of!

Check out this beautiful science outreach piece from a very interesting work. Highly recomend the reading even to non portuguese speakers. Do translate it, it will be worth it,trust me. This work is being made by PhD student Mariana Ribeiro (1/4) https://t.co/HCGZppLhBn
Mariana started as my uni colleague, that became a very good friend, until making her way to the family I chose. But, We all can be supportive to colleagues, friends, family, and all in science everytime.. to me I couldn’t be more proud of and happy for Mariana as I am every day
