The opening bell sample on "No. 29" from BTS's ARIRANG came to life today, September 15, as the Divine Bell of King Seongdeok rang 12 times at the Gyeongju National Museum.
Officially designated as National Treasure No. 29, this 1,250-year-old artifact served as the acoustic sample for the track on Bangtan’s latest album.
Because regular public ringing was halted in 1992 to protect against structural deterioration, today's strikes were part of a scientific acoustic inspection (Taeum-josa).
Acoustic engineers and conservators used surface-mounted sensors to measure the bell's sound frequencies, vibration modes, and signature resonance beat (maeknori) to verify its ongoing physical condition and internal structural stability.
Today's rare acoustic test bridges modern pop music with physical heritage—highlighting how the digital audio opening track 6 on ARIRANG connects directly to real-world cultural conservation in South Korea.
